Audience Member This film was publicized as a western from a Chinese point of view, supposedly about the whitewashed Chinese Massacre of 1871 in Los Angeles. Unfotunately, the history was massacred by a totally formulaic, predictable and cringeworthy script full of cliches. The Chinese slave girl knows kungfu and kicks ass (of course!). She's smart enough to have learned English from her father but does not know that her countrymen call America the "Gold Mountain" (duh?). Toisanese laborers are so smooth, well-dressed and speak perfect American English and perfect Mandarin. Gratuitous love scenes. All quite routine for a hokey Hong Kong or mainland Chinese film. But don't tell us it shows important Asian American history when you just use the Chinese Massacre as an excuse for kungfu and fake drama. No wonder it's free to watch on YouTube.
