Nicolas Rapold New York Times Above all, the film makes us interested in what Mr. Guiraudie will come up with next. Apr 10, 2014 Full Review Diego Semerene Slant Magazine Cruising for Alain Guiraudie seems to be the way of nature, a drive that doesn't discriminate. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 10, 2014 Full Review Richard Brody New Yorker [A] bumptious yet tender comedy. Apr 9, 2014 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine Full of farcical gags, odd character actors and broad high spirits, it’s also a compact, affectingly pessimistic story about our capacity for change. Jan 24, 2023 Full Review Steve Erickson Gay City News "The King of Escape" does show a deadpan sense of humor throughout, even if it's rarely laugh-out-loud funny. Feb 16, 2018 Full Review Mike Goodridge Screen International [The film is] infused with unexpected streaks of whimsy and fantasy. Apr 9, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member We watched this based on the stellar reviews by 7 pro-reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Apparently the filmmakers think everyone older man is this French town is bi-sexual tending toward homosexual. The film follows a forlorn and somewhat confused older gay guy as he gets infatuated with a teenaged girl and has various drug and sexual experiences. Slow and doesn't really go anywhere or say anything. Kept giving it another ten minutes and finished it but it was ultimately unsatisfying and kind of lame. A bit of a waste of time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Fell asleep just reading about it.
