Kaito K The charectors Towred The End Were Extremely Useless Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Audience Member Unfunny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A much better Sequel compared to others, and honestly, it’s one of my favorite LBT movies!! I loved that Chomper Came Back!! His parents (Both Sharp Teeth) are also very sweet! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/30/21 Full Review Audience Member The "Friends for Dinner" song was honestly pretty cute. I think the first track that has grated on me in the series up to this point since Land Before Time 2's egg-snatchin' song... Actually not just "since" that song, it literally is just those two songs I haven't groaned at. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand these are movies for kids. I watched them when I was a kid, but kids' movies can still be good to adults, and often are. This one is... more "okay" to adults. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member It is a good family movie. This is actually better than the first two sequels. It is also very entertaining. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member With a disappointing predecessor, it seemed sensible to go into seeing The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island with fairly low standards. That ended up being a good move because The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island turned out to be the best of all the direct to video sequels so far. The reason that it is the best rests mainly on the story. The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island depicts the iconic animated characters going on yet another adventure. This time it has them on a journey which actually has realistic relevance to their own existence after all the food in The Great Valley is eaten by "leaf-gobblers". The journey is all new this time and it ends up following the main characters as they find themselves isolated on a mysterious island of carnivorous dinosaurs. The story in this one was good because it featured the return of the character Chomper from The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure and because it touched upon a journey that did not feel that familiar. You cannot have standards that are too high for a film like The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island, but it managed to exceed mine and stayed consistently entertaining. The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island is good because its story feels new and its characters are as great as ever, but more importantly it consistently has enough of the childish charm that made it a popular film series. As well as bringing over all the cutsie characters that Don Bluth created, the animation in the film is slightly better than its predecessor. Primarily, as the story takes place during the daytime the colour for the film is a lot more vibrant and so there is a stronger sense of visual energy in the project. The animation also seems more organic this time around and the colour is more detailed which presents a step up from the dank and rough animation from The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists. Everything in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island feels a lot more fun, and the script is written a lot better this time so that meaningful concepts remain in the subject matter while there are still plenty of childish jokes around to please viewers. Even the songs are a little better this time, especially "Friends for Dinner" which is the most catchy and memorable of all the Land Before Time films so far. So frankly, the writing in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island is a large step up for the series and the animation is a lot better, so there is a lot of strength at the heart of the film to support it as it progresses, and it should be consistently entertaining for the young crowds for its childish charm and for its jokes, as well as how it touches upon the subject matter of judgment. In the story, the characters all judge Chomper on the basis of the fact that he is of a carnivore species, but in actual fact he has morals and aspires to be more than that. It is an example of not judging a book by its cover cleverly disguised in the subtext of an animated dinosaur film. Essentially, The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island does not succumb to the usual limitations of a direct to video film as much as many of the other entries into the series have, and this one seems more refreshing and funny. So director Charles Grosvenor is able to take over the directional duties of Roy Allen Smith and put some new life into the series after it started to progress downhill. The voice acting of the film also proves to be strong As I've mentioned before, my favourite character from the Land Before Time series is Ducky and nobody will ever voice her as well as Judith Barsi did in the first entry into the series. And after Heather Hogan filled in for the role in the succeeding three sequels, it is hard to imagine anyone else doing it as well. Although in The Land Before Time VII: The Great Day of the Flyers she had aged too much and her voice had become too deep, in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island Aria Noelle Curzon manages to take on the role very well. She captures the right tone of voice for the role and injects a lot of energy and childish charm into the part of the iconic animated character. She delivers all of her lines with the right amount of cutsie energy and is even able to deliver her catchphrase "Yep! Yep! Yep!" very well. Aria Noelle Curzon takes over the role of Ducky very well in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island, and manages to keep her remaining as my favourite character of the series. Brandon LaCroix manages to do a good job in the role as Littlefoot. Like I've said before, it isn't too hard to get that voice right because it is a fairly common and familiar one, but Brandon LaCroix has no problem delivering his lines with the right level of childish charisma for the part of Littlefoot. He makes a good new addition to the cast. Kenneth Mars does a good job as Grandpa Longneck once again thanks to his natural ability to conjure up a tone of wisdom in his voice, Jeff Bennett voices Petrie very easily another time thanks to his high pitch and awkward demeanour being easily established in the part and newcomer Cannon Young manages to make Chomper a likable figure. So The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island is a film which can only go so far, but it manages to make itself the best in the series of Land Before Time sequels so far by using colourful animation, a nice amount of energy and humour, and a new kind of story with effective subject matter Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
