Indebted boxer Andy "Kid" Clave (Ruben Blades) is forced into a deal with nefarious promoter Joaquin Vargas (Willie Colón), who insists on taking half of Andy's winnings after fights as a means of repayment. When Vargas' henchmen threaten all that Andy holds dear, he decides to retaliate, and he finds out about a weakness that Vargas has been hiding. Meanwhile, a private detective, Jesse Crowder (Fred Williamson), is investigating both Andy and Vargas.
