Photojournalist Betty (Susan Anspach) and her husband, Jock (Simon Ward), discover a Rothschild giraffe -- one of the most endangered varieties of the species -- on assignment in Africa. The animal is in the sights of a poacher (Gordon Jackson) set on capturing it and its herd. Simon and Betty, trying to save the giraffe, discover in the process that the giraffe population in Kenya is under siege because the locals are unknowingly making the land less fit for these animals.
