Gene Autry (Gene Autry) works for the Pony Express, which is becoming obsolete due to the rapid onset of modernization, including the telegraph. When Gene brings an innovative idea to his employer, Tom (John Downey), he's fired. Meanwhile, Clyde Vesey (Howard Wright) tries to steal Tom's business by pressuring him to repay a loan and obstructing Pony Express riders. Despite having been fired, Gene follows Clyde's henchmen and tries to stand up for Tom and his family.
