In 1950, there were 25 million international tourist arrivals. In 2020, that number will be 1.6 billion. More people are traveling now than at any other point in history. Travel is in an unfortunate state. Over-tourism has magnified the impact on the environment, wildlife, and vulnerable populations around the world. Unintentionally, tourists are destroying the very things they have come to see. Tourism has reached a tipping point. Yet, travel is also an opportunity. It can be leveraged as a force for good -- to promote conservation, alleviate poverty and positively transform host communities, while fostering cultural connection and understanding between people from all walks of life.

Domini Clark Globe and Mail The film itself is a form of conflict: Beautiful to watch, it tells us why we shouldn’t travel while simultaneously inspiring wanderlust. Apr 13, 2022 Full Review Chris Knight National Post The Last Tourist sounds like the title of a horror movie. It’s actually a documentary. But it’s also quite frightening. Rated: 3/5 Apr 1, 2022 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said Sobering and important. Apr 1, 2022 Full Review Pat Mullen POV Magazine With picturesque views of 30-odd locations around the world, The Last Tourist inspires a sense of wonder with one image, but provides a sense of whats at stake with the jarring trash-filled and overpopulated snapshots in the next. Mar 31, 2022 Full Review Kim Hughes Original Cin It won't win any awards for subtly, but the documentary makes the case for why contemporary tourism is untenable and must be rethought by anyone boarding a plane. Rated: B Mar 31, 2022 Full Review Joel Fisher Battle Royale With Cheese The world is still opening up and there are more opportunities for places to go and things to do. However, The Last Tourist may be something to watch before you pack your bags and head for the sun. Mar 26, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Miranda B I loved the perspective this movie gives on how small changes in our travel behaviour can actually HELP people. The more we know about being good global citizens, the less damage we do. A must see for any travel lover. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/23 Full Review Jen L Whenever I see a documentary with far less appreciation than is deserved, I feel those watching are seeing aspects of their own behavior they don't like. I'm sorry Humans are selfish consumers who care nothing for others, just a photo op. It's not the fault of those making this film that human beings are a parasitic species who drains resources from one place and then continues to do the same to another. Leaving vulnerable populations in poverty and able to be exploited by Western companies who do nothing but pollute the host countries. There does need to be a change in the way we travel or eventually places around the world will not welcome tourists, they will be looking to fight them. For good reasons. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Very enlightening film about our impact on other cultures when we travel. The Cambodian "orphanages" was especially heartbreaking. "It's a mirror of what we do with animals in a zoo." Powerful stuff!!! Thank you for making this. I will promote it to raise awareness. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review baldwin c Wow. This changed my view on travel and it makes SO much sense. I'm hurting for all the people, animals, and environment in these tourist countries. People always try to make films political. Nothing political about this. It's just hard realities. The way we travel basically takes our Western comfort to all these uncomfortable places and it really doesn't make sense. We feel like we are learning so much about these countries, people, and environment, but in reality, we're just trying to live the way we'd live in western civilization but in a different timezone and climate. I am definitely going to change my way of travel after watching this....and I'm sorry for the way I've traveled in the past not knowing the harm I was doing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review greg r A must watch for those traveling abroad. Especially, to place with emerging societies. One would think most of this to be obvious. It clearly is not. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jeanette b Extremely enlightening documentary. Will forever change the way you view and approach traveling, hopefully by being a part of the solution and not the problem. A must see for anyone who cares about social and environmental responsibility. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
