The modern world holds many secrets, the most astounding being that witches still live among us. Centuries ago, Kaulder (Vin Diesel) managed to slay the all-powerful Witch Queen, decimating her followers in the process. Diesel is definitely not the kind of actor who can effortlessly coast through a film by dint of his rakish wit and charm. He needs a vehicle (ahem) that plays to his strengths. The Last Witch Hunter is definitely not such a vehicle.

Diesel is fast and furious enough to deliver the Conan the Barbarian level dialogue ('The benefit of eternal life is that I get to kill you twice!') with conviction but the movie is dull enough you'll wish these witches would go away for a spell.

I knew within the first 10 minutes of watching this movie that I wasn’t going to like it. However, I decided to see it through—thinking that maybe I was judging too harshly. I truly wish I had given up after that first ten minutes because now I have lost nearly 2 hours of my life that I will never get back. Chewing broken glass would have been a more useful way to spend my time. This movie includes some of the absolute cringiest line delivery I have ever seen in my life. The dynamic with Chloe makes ZERO sense considering the timeline. They had what COULD have been an interesting plot, but it was killed by the odd acting and questionable line delivery. I disliked this movie so much that I literally downloaded the rotten tomatoes app to leave this review. I genuinely enjoy watching “fun” bad movies—but this is not “fun” bad. This is just bad bad.

I think the 18% score the the critics gave it is unfair, but yeah it isn't great. Vin Diesel just isn't a good fit for fantasy roles. That said its fun and the special effects make it a fun watch streaming.
