Audience Member If you're an avid enthusiast of love stories gone wrong, this romantic sleeper/in your face tale of coupling off will reluctantly....get you off. Paul and Paula, as a place of hysteria. Just when you think you've had it with these two, lay your schadenfreude out to dry and get prepared for Paul and Paula's absurd journey -which includes the best ever PG-13 psilocybin infested sex scene. The ending will leave you not in tears, but stubbornly reflecting on that certain synchronicity in life which we either pay too much attention to, or ignore completely. Love. And through that great bright light you see when you rub your eyes, the pure tragedy of your own self pity will arise amidst the cheesed out but oh so lovely one hit wonder'd German Pop songs of the 60's. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member The translation was really bad, nonexistent at many times, so it's hard to give this movie a fair rating. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Freespirited and young mother of two Paula falls in love with the unhappily married conservative Paul. Both suddenly feeling oppressed by boundaries of institutions of all sorts, Paula desperately tries to free Paul from his conservatism. A times defying the oppression of East Germany, though cleverly getting away with it, The Legend of Paul and Paula is remarkable enough if only for its bravery and understated snub at censorship. The film itself is quite a non-conformist love story, and while sometimes it may seem a little silly, it's still entertaining and sweet. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Flower Power couldn't save this frustrating, at times, melodrama - at least it was not as overly political as some of its DEFA counterparts. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A bit of a romp with one or two fantastic moments. Interesting use of sound and a rather lovely colour film stock lend it a surprising intimacy. Yet again a GDR movie revolving around a lack of men - although by '73 this must have been a bit less of an issue for a 23 year old such as Paula. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member A couple good scenes, but not very good. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
