Alaina J @Arielunderthesea 3d I enjoyed several things about this film. Though not perfect (what movie is?), the acting was solid for the most part and even very good at times in my opinion. I think that the lead (Lee Wilson as Van Dorn) was a good choice and he was solid in the role without taking risks or overacting. He was stoic at times that seemed appropriate. David Meadows who played General Forrest was good in his role as well which included a lot of powerful, stern interactions with Van Dorn. The cinematography was beautiful with scenes of country sides, homes, horses, and battles. The movie kept me in suspense right up until the most important scene of the film. I like how the story was told. I would recommend this movie to people who enjoy historical films with rich cinematic views and a mixture of wartime situations and forbidden romance. See more Richie S @RT52977271 Aug 24 I found The Legend of Van Dorn to be an enjoyable look at a side of the Civil War I really didn’t know much about going in. The production design and costumes were especially impressive and did a great job bringing the period to life. The lead performance as Van Dorn felt a little stale at times, but the supporting cast really helped carry the movie. Ellie Patrikios was a standout as Jesse Peters, bringing a lot of personality and presence to the role and making Jesse one of the most memorable characters in the film. David B. Meadows was also excellent as General Nathan Bedford Forrest and gave the movie some strong moments. Overall, an interesting and well-made period piece with some really strong supporting performances. See more H B @Turkeyreport Aug 24 I turned this movie off after 3 minutes. Must have been a bad casting call when they couldn't find an actor for Nathan Bedford Forrest with a southern accent. Simpletons must have decided historical accuracy has no place in a civil war movie. . This production and direction would have a tough time on the Hallmark channel. Sadly the War takes a back seat to the "drama" . After 10 minutes I gave up cause there was absolutely no redeeming value relevant to the Civil War. Somebody had a budget for costumes got maxed out...Every lady wears hoop skirts that were more fitting for a modeling show. Every costume is immaculate and crisp like the dry cleaners just delivered it. Speaking of delivery who wrote this stilted abysmal dialogue. Almost a Hundred years later A famous General said War is Hell. You'd never know it from this shallow sappy beginning. Patton would have slapped the director again and again. A full blown turkey Gooble gooble See more F L @FredL Aug 22 The only movie about the Civil War that never gives the audience a clue as to what the Civil War was about. Lots of breathless Southern belles, tho. See more Hector A @RT14901566 Aug 22 Am a bit of a Civil War nut and was greatly disappointed by the movie. It just rushed the story, providing no build up to who Van Dorn was other than other people commenting what a great general he was. Said he was the only General to beat Grant but didn’t show the battle or even the strategy to demonstrate his "brilliance". Battle actually shown was terrible. There were no civilian bystanders standing 10 feet from the fighting just watching. Acting is dry and c-list talent. Worst movie I’ve seen in 2026. See more Read all reviews
