When a postal airplane crashes, all of its cargo is destroyed. But a year later some letters are found and a postman (Henry Jones) returns them to Elaine (Jane Powell), Penelope (Dina Merrill) and Karen (Pamela Franklin). The contents of the missing letters change their lives. Elaine's husband (John Forsythe) wanted a divorce, Penelope's mother (Barbara Stanwyck) tried to end her engagement and Karen's husband (Ben Murphy) wanted a successful career, not a wife.
