The life of legendary -- albeit fictional -- country singer Guy Terrifico (Matt Murphy) is chronicled through a series of interviews and archival vignettes. Arising from the music scene of western Canada in the 1970s, Guy achieves fame and finds love with the ever-patient Mary Lou (Natalie Radford). But Guy's self-destructive impulses get the better of him, and his career goes off the rails, leading to an early death, or perhaps simply an untimely disappearance.

Jennie Punter Globe and Mail Real-life references abound and it's a whole heck of a lot of fun hearing them because they're probably true. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 11, 2005 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star Canada has no real star system, so it's a hoot in more ways that one to watch Michael Mabbott's ace mockumentary about a fabled country-rocker who transcends time and a possibly faked death to become a true Canuck immortal. Rated: 3/5 Sep 9, 2005 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Enjoyable as a goof, but not much else came off sounding good. Rated: C+ Jun 25, 2009 Full Review Jim Slotek Jam! Movies A feel-good homage to the people taking part in it, a framework for various country-rock outlaws, miscreants and rascals. Jeremiah P I wish more people knew about this film… and the music within. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/22 Full Review Audience Member I honestly don't know how this movie isn't a huge cult classic. I saw it for the first time years ago when I was home sick from work. I was sucked in from the beginning and it took me for a ride the entire film with so many memorable scenes, quotes, etc. On top of all that, the music was great too. I thought about it a few nights ago and of course couldn't find it on any of the streaming service. I did find the full movie on YouTube and watched it on my TV. LONG LIVE GUY TERRIFICO! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Compared to Spinal Tap, this one falls a little short. I personally think the music mockumentary has been overdone and this is an example that shows that most of the laughs are recycled. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Caught this on Sundance Channel. And I loved it. Matt Murphy, Kris Kristoferson, and cast were amazing. Songs were great and storytelling ws awesome. I'd recommend 100% to any true movie and story telling buff. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member about halfway through this movie i turned to my friend and asked "hey. is this real?" he said "no, of course not." i was fooled for the first half. i've never been a fan of country music so i figured that guy terrifico was a legitimate country music legend that i had never heard of. once i learned the truth, i started to appreciate this film a lot more. it's at least written well enough to appear truthful. it's not the greatest mockumentary i've ever seen, but it's still fun to watch. watching guy go through the standard rock star phases of partying, finding god, finding love and getting killed proved to be a far more enjoyable journey than you'd expect. matt murphy portrays terrifico as a likeable train wreck with surprisingly good tunes. the fact that real life country legends were shown talking about him was really cool. it helped make terrifico seem a lot more real, at least until the movie ended. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Hannibal (2001) - 3.5/10 Director - Ridley Scott, Julianne Moore, Ray Liotta, Gary Oldman, Giancarlo Giannini, Frankie R. Faison, Francesca Neri. The widely anticipated followup to Silence of the Lambs, 2001's Hannibal was pretty much doomed from the start. Gone is Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme, replaced by Ridley Scott. Also gone is Jodie Foster as Agent Starling, replaced by Julianne Moore after Ms. Foster rejected the script. Anthony Hopkins does return as Hannibal Lechter. It's no wonder that Jodie Foster declined on reprising her role as Agent Starling as the screenplay is suspect at best. The interplay and tension between Starling and Hannibal is what made Silence of the Lambs such a memorable and groundbreaking film. That is mostly absent in this film, and the Agent Starling in Hannibal bears very little resemblance to the Agent Starling in Lambs and not only because Julianne Moore (an actress I happen to like) is playing her. There is an inherent lack of suspense, an almost comical array of characters (most notably Oldman and Liotta) and a noticable disconnection from everything that made Silence of the Lambs great. What a waste. Detroit Rock City (1999) - 2.5/10 Director - Adam Rifkin Starring - Edward Furlong, Sam Huntington, Giuseppe Andrews, Lin Shaye, Natasah Lyonne, James DeBello, Kiss. It's 1978 and a bunch of kids will do anything to get to Detroit to see their idols Kiss live in concert. It wants to be Dazed and Confused but ends up being Bill & Ted channeling National Lampoon on the way to see a bad 70's rock band. Nacho Libre (2006) - 3.2/10 Director - Jared Hess Starring - Jack Black, Ana DeLa Reguera, Hector Jiminez, Peter Stormare, Darius Rose. Joy joy, another stupid Jack Black comedy. The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico (2006) - 3.5/10 Director - Michael Mabbott Starring - Matt Murphy, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, etc Country music's attempt at a mockumentary. This ain't Spinal Tap. Epic Movie (2006) - 0.1/10 Director - Jason Friedberg/Aaron Seltzer Starring - Jennifer Coolidge, Kal Penn, Adam Campbell, Fred Willard. These guys make Uwe Boll look like Orson Welles. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
