Critics Consensus

The Life List checks all the romantic comedy boxes with efficiency, but it could've benefitted from squiggling outside the lines here and there.

The word “messy” is bandied around by its characters but The Life List is far too clean. Go to Full Review

"The Life List" is painstakingly safe. It has no conflict, let alone an edge. Go to Full Review

Much like a “Live, Laugh, Love” cross-stitch has its place in a certain type of home, The Life List has its place as a cathartic tearjerker for those who care more about life-affirming stories than quality filmmaking. Go to Full Review

The bulk of The Life List is filled with repetitive platitudes, especially when we can see the telegraphed emotional beats coming a mile away. Go to Full Review

Sofia Carson gives a beautiful performance about the stages of grief and growing into your own person and the film is anchored by the incredible Connie Britton. Go to Full Review

Joanna T @aerialgirly92 4d Wholesome story about a mom who gets cancer but still wants to teach her daughter some life lessons since her daughter wasn't making strides in life. She gives the daughter a goals list that the daughter wrote when she was 13 and asks the daughter to go through the list before she can claim her inheritance. Mom films short videos for her daughter to watch after each item she ticks off. Relatable stories unfold too, like how she broke ups with her loser bf but her new bf isn't interested in her world nor her friends. (They don't all socialize well together, convos are too shallow for the new bf which I can understand.) She falls for her mom's lawyer who has been monitoring her list progress. The lawyer breaks up with his current gf to be with her, which seems bad tbh. Her biological dad isn't interested in her but she makes amends with her current dad. She finds happiness again in an old career. Bonds more with her siblings. In the end, mom gives her the house which she loves. See more Juan Pablo J 4d Mmmm, a pretty normal movie. Interesting, yes, but I don’t think it’s repulsive at all, and it has things we all knew were going to happen. Besides, it’s really very illogical, everything the mother makes her do just so she can receive a house. Ridiculous. See more Apollo F @Apollo11 Dec 30 I love the plot of this movie and how uncomplicated the story is. The only thing that I hate is the normalization of cheating. Like can we just don't do that? Like it's literally the only thing that ruined the movie. It is really unnecessary. See more Louis C @Couturelp Dec 23 This movie is unbelievably boring from beginning to end, with scenes that drag on forever and absolutely nothing happening. I kept waiting for some kind of romance or emotional spark, but there is none at all, zero chemistry and zero reason to care about the characters. By the end, I was more focused on how much time was left than on the story itself, which says everything. See more Edna C Nov 15 The Life List premise intrigued me and I wanted to like it but I could smell the plot, overarching story and character a mile away. It dragged on and on. See more Will B @Wiggyb123 Nov 2 Easy watch, tells the story what it says in the tin really. A life list of things a young women was given by her late mother by year end in order to get a house as her inheritance. See more Read all reviews
