Critics Consensus

The Life List checks all the romantic comedy boxes with efficiency, but it could've benefitted from squiggling outside the lines here and there.

Benjamin Lee Guardian The word “messy” is bandied around by its characters but The Life List is far too clean. Rated: 2/5 Apr 8, 2025 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday "The Life List" is painstakingly safe. It has no conflict, let alone an edge. Rated: 0.5/4 Mar 31, 2025 Full Review Caroline Siede AV Club Much like a “Live, Laugh, Love” cross-stitch has its place in a certain type of home, The Life List has its place as a cathartic tearjerker for those who care more about life-affirming stories than quality filmmaking. Rated: C Mar 28, 2025 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com One of the best rom coms I have seen lately. Rated: 7/10 May 28, 2025 Full Review Lauren Veneziani WBAL-TV (Baltimore) Sofia Carson gives a beautiful performance about the stages of grief and growing into your own person and the film is anchored by the incredible Connie Britton. patrick S Another mid romcom, can't we get something fresh and original. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/30/25 Full Review Yash B "The Life List" is a sappy and sweet movie that is easy to watch. I feel the initial premise actually was pretty interesting, and I saw the potential for the movie to be really meaningful. I do think the romance element actually brings the quality down, and I was more interested in seeing the growth of the character. The love triangle feels like the least engaging part of the movie, so it brings things down a bit. That being said, it is a decent movie with pure intentions, and it comes off as an elevated Hallmark movie so it provides a tried and true formula that still works. Overall, it is a movie that will give viewers what they want from a romcom like this, and I think is good enough for a one-time watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/27/25 Full Review Hannah O I wanted an easy to watch rom-com, and this delivers as well as giving you something more substantial than expected. Whilst the romantic sub plot goes like you would expect, the storyline is emotive and makes you think more than you thought it would. Lovely story, decent acting and in the end, very enjoyable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/26/25 Full Review Katie L So nice to finally see a movie that's not controversial, pretentious, or just down right depressing. Why can't there be more movies and shows like this on Netflix? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/23/25 Full Review T H The Life List began pretty solid (even a little comedic), then tragically descended into a textbook, boring love story that felt its length. Sorry, but this movie is just one F-bomb ahead of a standard Hallmark movie. (Cue hard eye roll) Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/21/25 Full Review Kat K I really loved this film. It’s simple, beautiful, and comforting — like a cozy blanket for the soul. Some people in the comments are out here calling it “too perfect” or “not realistic enough,” and I’m like… huh? Life itself can be pretty uncomfortable already, so when something gives you a moment to breathe, to dream, to feel good — isn’t that the point? For me, this film was motivating in the gentlest way. It reminded me that “perfect” doesn’t have to be the end — it can actually be the beginning. A reminder that you can have nice things, soft moments, and meaningful connections. That’s more than enough sometimes. So yeah, maybe some people wanted more chaos or more pain. But I loved it just the way it was. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review Read all reviews
