What to Know

Critics Consensus

Showing a sweeter side of director Mike Flanagan's deeply-felt emotional register, The Life of Chuck is a buoyant and often wonderful adaptation of one of Stephen King's more cosmically optimistic tales.

Audience Says

The Life of Chuck refreshingly defies the norm, delivering a heartfelt non-linear experience that brings joy in the form of a dancing Tom Hiddleston.

Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Clever conceits all too easily tip over into synthetic contrivance. If The Life Of Chuck... just about manages to stay on the right side of that tricky balance, it’s largely thanks to solid work from the cast. Oct 7, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) It's a musing film and an amusing film, but it's also beautifully poignant and profound. Sep 5, 2025 Full Review Tom Shone The Times (UK) This is King deep in therapeutic-schmaltz mode, with the Apocalypse an excuse to binge on nuggets of folksy wisdom that wouldn’t be out of place in a fortune cookie. Rated: 2/5 Aug 26, 2025 Full Review Ernesto Diezmartinez Letras Libres The Life of Chuck, a thoughtful melodrama based very faithfully on a Stephen King story, addresses life’s big questions by following the trail of a famous Whitman poem.[Full review in Spanish] Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 22, 2025 Full Review Vera Wylde Council of Geeks I think this managed to balance its elements and hold onto its themes through an unconventional narrative to tell what is ultimately a very simple story on a grand scale. I really adored this movie. Oct 18, 2025 Full Review Randy Meeks Espinof Every moment, every instant, every memory is shown with the seriousness and poise of a film that knows it's important, only to end up exhausting itself very quickly. Andy G I went into this basically completely blind, other than knowing a few of the actors in it, and I'm glad I did. The story is told in an unconventional way, but it's really well made, and builds to a great message. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/01/25 Full Review Shirley This was a wonderful movie, and I look forward to watching it again, and again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/25 Full Review Wybie Truly beautiful movie. Great script and loved the performances Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/03/25 Full Review Mellytoast Stephen King is the BEST! Happily, the movie followed the book well & brought it to life. We're still discussing the concept & bringing up the weird & wonderful things we noticed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/03/25 Full Review Eddie This went from existentialist to introspective REAL quick, and it completely broke me. In the best way. I think this film encapsulates all the fears of the modern world. Of what it feels like to watch the news, and to be afraid, and all at once grateful that at least you still have today. It emphasizes the importance of living for yourself and appreciating the beauty that is existence by reminding us it won't last forever. I need to sit quietly in a room and think for a few days now. I also need to go back to dancing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Susan Nice sentiment of enjoying the ordinary moments of life, but it sometimes felt like there were too many disconnected parts. What was the deal with all the projections on the houses? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/25 Full Review Read all reviews
