K Truly a masterclass in comedy and period-piece filmmaking. 5 stars, 10/10, push this movie onto everyone you know. Immediately. if you dislike this movie, it's not the film, it's you. Cheers my friends. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Ben W Really great! Incredible performances by Willem and Robert. Artistically and visually very appealing and interesting. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Matthew Two crazy guys stuck together on an island with a Lighthouse. All I can say is Robert Pattinson and William Defoe both got snubbed out of Oscar nominations. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/25/21 Full Review Audience Member This movie is Masterpiece that, In a fair world, would win virtually every applicable Oscar. Visually Stunning, amazing performances, and on point in virtually every way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/23 Full Review Tori One of the most gorgeously shot films in recent memory. Cannot more highly recommend for fans of cinema which is in itself a master class in scene composition. A second viewing was necessary in order to really evaluate the acting - which was superb. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/15/19 Full Review Audience Member The Lighthouse is an atmospherically brilliant puzzle of a film - with stunning black and white cinematography, haunting visuals, and a foreboding score. Taking many cues from The Shining, it's successful as a chilling (even terrifying) exercise in semi-horror (with enough humor to balance out the darkness), even if not all of its provocative symbols and events fall into place. You may leave the theater scratching your head, but you will be satisfied by what you saw. The film will stick with you after - as you try to unpack its strangeness. Anton Bitel Little White Lies a rich and strange sea yarn in monochrome that overflows with Beckettian absurdity, as these men, perhaps both liars (literal gaslighters), look, while waiting for ‘relief’, into the abyss of both their elemental isolation & their infernal companionship. Jun 19, 2023 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au The Lighthouse may be challenging, it may even be off-putting, but it's gutsy, accomplished and the kind of movie that sears into your memory. Rated: 4/5 Feb 28, 2020 Full Review David Stratton The Australian The atmosphere is ugly, claustrophobic, hermetic, the images murky and relentless. There seems no doubt Eggers is an original and talented filmmaker, but he hasn't made it easy on the audience with this grim, forbidding movie. Rated: 3/5 Feb 11, 2020 Full Review Tommy James Vague Visages Working in harmony, Mark Korven’s musical horror and Damien Volpe’s sound design consistently bubble under the surface, hinting at unsettling and unfolding motifs. Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews Filmed in beautiful black-and-white with a claustrophobic aspect ratio, Robert Eggers delivers a story about loneliness and isolation that takes the weirdest, craziest route. I don't have a single complaint, and I love it more the more I think about it. Rated: A+ Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Paul Kanieski KSQD Community Radio As a dark fable, The Lighthouse resonates on the level of collective memory and myth, providing a thoroughly engrossing, veritable masterpiece of performance, period detail and visual inventiveness.
