Peter Stack San Francisco Chronicle Hewing to the exotic epic look of the original blockbuster, the new direct-to-video sequel "The Lion King II: Simba's Pride" is enchanting small-screen entertainment that feels big. Nov 12, 2019 Full Review Caryn James New York Times It's disappointing that this girls-are-strong theme doesn't play out as smartly as it should, but that's the one weakness in this sleek, joyful, entertaining film. Nov 12, 2019 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety Not unlike its predecessor, "Lion King II" has enough across-the-board appeal to entertain viewers of all ages. Feb 23, 2012 Full Review Jeremy Conrad IGN Movies While it could never match up to the powerful original, The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride is a surprisingly good direct-to-video sequel. Rated: 7/10 Nov 12, 2019 Full Review Kate Pavao Common Sense Media LION KING II is good by Disney sequel standards and unique in that the story actually follows directly from the first movie. Rated: 3/5 Nov 12, 2019 Full Review Teresa Lindeman Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Lots of grub jokes, catchy musical interludes and a satisfying villainess with the voice of Suzanne Pleshette. Samuel G Thankfully, I finally saw the original The Lion King and its sequel, Simba's Pride on Freeform over the summer before my senior year in West Orange High School started. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/23/25 Full Review Viking P I want to ask why this movie gets so much hate? It deserves more credit than you guys think. First of all, this is direct to dvd sequel despite having less character development and less emotional core and quality than the original it's still amazing movie. I really liked how Disney took the story of Romeo and Juliette and made it in a movie with a positive ending than a negative ending. The visuals and animation are still great and amazing. The soundtrack was quite good and catchy where I vibe to it. I really liked how we see throughout the movie that Simba still is scare of his past and about Kiara being in danger. I really find this continuation amazing especially for direct to DVD sequel. I enjoyed the villain Zira amazing and scary voice acting and also enjoyed Kovu as a new character and eventually switching side choosing peace and unison over hatred and war. The battle scenes were not as well animated as predecessor but still great and scary. The humour was good still laughed at some jokes. There's still great messages throughout the movie when Simba talks to Kiara abut the "circle of life" and the song "we are one". I really liked the ending where both families are at peace and find it emotional how Zira killed herself refusing to get saved by Kiara because of her obsession of hatred and revenge. In conclusion, this was an amazing continuation still worthy watch for all ages and deserves better critics and credit. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Pig 1 Good for straight to dvd And the lions are cute too In a perfect world One we've never known We would never need to face the world alone They can have the world We'll create our own I may not be brave or strong or smart But somewhere in my secret heart I know Love will find a way Anywhere I go I'm home If you are there beside me Like dark turning into day Somehow we'll come through Now that I've found you Love will find a way I was so afraid Now I realize Love is never wrong And so it never dies There's a perfect world Shining in your eyes And if only they could feel it too The happiness I feel with you They'd know Love will find a way Anywhere we go We're home If we are there together Like dark turning into day Somehow we'll come through Now that I've found you Love will find a way I know love will find a way Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Luiz Eduardo R Apesar de contar com uma animação inferior ao clássico original, O Rei Leão 2 surpreende por sua narrativa envolvente e emocional.
