      Critics Consensus

The Long Dumb Road navigates the odd couple road trip comedy formula fairly smoothly, thanks mainly to the chemistry between Tony Revolori and Jason Mantzoukas.

Brett D This comedy doesn't make me laugh. It's a road trip movie without the fun and adventure of most films in this genre. Mantzoukas is an unlikable character in the film so it's pretty hard to get on board. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/23 Full Review George B Sad to say, by The Long Dumb Road is just "there". A nonexistent plot, meandering and ending without fanfare. The leads are wasted and the entire film is neither bad or good making me wonder what I have learned in the hour and some change I spent watching. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/22 Full Review dave s Nathan (Tony Revolori) is a naïve art school student, leaving home in Texas and heading for Los Angeles. Richard (Jason Mantzoukas) is a weary drifter with a life philosophy, a philosophy he can only fulfil with the aid of others. When fate throws them together, both have something to learn from each other and plenty to lose. While The Long Dumb Road doesn't really add much of anything that's new to the road trip concept, it does provide us with a couple of characters that are well-developed, likeable and, to some extent, relatable. Both of the leads do a great job, but Mantzoukas in particular steals the show, allowing his natural sense of humor and charisma to take front stage. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Movie was the definition of meh. It felt like every other road trip movie only not very funny...can't believe the high reviews. Glad some people liked it Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Jason Mantzoukas is always a breath of fresh air. His genius in playing characters that are somewhat unstable is always incredible, and amazing. Mantzoukas is quite possibly the best improve artist in the world, and that is proven by the projects that he has undertaken over the years, and the fact that he is one of, if not the most highly most sought after voice actor in modern times. Manzoukas doesn't have to manipulate his voice to be desired, he just is who he is. Which is why he is the best. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member There's nothing about this premise that sticks out and it doesn't have the wild gags that other road trip comedies do. However, it works because Revolori and Mantzoukas have great chemistry and the film is at its best when they're just talking. I enjoyed it. Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times Neither long nor dumb, Hannah Fidell's "The Long Dumb Road" is in reality a terrifically entertaining odd couple road comedy expertly navigated by costars Tony Revolori and Jason Mantzoukas. Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture Mantzoukas brilliantly juggles all the different forces of Richard's personality so that we never quite know what to make of this guy, which in turn means that we never quite know what will happen next with him and Nat.
