Audience Member Despite the no-budget sets, the pedestrian direction, the clunky dubbing... ...there is something rather endearing about Victor Buono channelling Sweeney Todd as he turns those who cross him into delicious sausages. It's a comic riff on his earlier - and superior - The Strangler. It's all very cheesy stuff, very Herschell Gordon Lewis-esque but without the gore unfortunately. It's never boring but it is very dated and the humour won't rub off very effectively with everyone. My husband picked it out and I moaned and groaned about the choice, it just looked like it was going to be awful. Not long into the film however, I was having a really good time. It's no academy award winner, don't get me wrong but I adore the main character - the butcher. This is a dark comedy that filled me with glee while watching it. The best butcher in Vienna gets really talented at making cheap delicious sausages and by the time the town realizes why they are so tasty it will be too late ;-) Very fun film!
