Boyd van Hoeij Hollywood Reporter Maresco doesn't really have a story angle beyond the 25th anniversary of the brutal killing of two anti-mafia judges, which feels much too superficial and thin for a feature-length film. Sep 11, 2019 Full Review Jay Weissberg Variety It's highly unlikely anyone outside Italy will find much amusement in the repetitive situations or Maresco's headache-inducing voiceover. Sep 9, 2019 Full Review Guillem Martinez Oya Cinematismo Franco Maresco presents a documentary where, sadly, Debord's spectacle culture has won against the truth. You have to see it. Audience Member If Hannah Arendt found in Eichmann the banality of evil, director Maresca shows that Mafia also has some characters working for the organization which are so grotesque and idiots that are close to circus freaks. Maresca, with his camera in his hand, follows one of these characters, who is organizing an event to tribute anti-mafia judges Falcone and Borselino, but neither of the members of the events want to say anything against mafia. That way, director shows us that the omérta (silence law) is still present in Italy, and that mafia even gets some benefit from anti-mafia phenomenons, somehow. Full of even perverse irony, the documentary has also the collaboration of the famous anti-mafia photographer Letizia Battaglia. In certain moments, it does not talk so much about mafia than about freaks, or simply scam. Should you watch it? Well, it depends on how much you like movies which continously show what they say it shouldn't exist, describingly in a vivid detail which irritates you if you don't take it with humour.
