Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Depression, drugs and professional stasis commingle in The Magic Gloves, a limp urban comedy not nearly as whimsical as its title. Rated: 2/5 Nov 8, 2006 Full Review J. Hoberman Village Voice The Magic Gloves is a city symphony in which the metropolis seems an illusory maze and the melody is based on a refrain of recurring riffs. Nov 7, 2006 Full Review Ed Gonzalez Slant Magazine The film's amusing running gags notwithstanding, Rejtman makes the mistake of adopting the depressed, disinterested feelings of his characters, confusing apathy for poetry. Rated: 2/4 Oct 30, 2006 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site The filmmaker, although critical of people who expect miracles, who passively wait for someone or something to solve their problems, is not terribly sympathetic to his characters. Feb 15, 2021 Full Review Dan Sallitt Senses of Cinema [Director Martin] Rejtman depicts every crisis and solution in the film in the same unflappable, static style, generating humor from the characters' and the camera's persistent lack of reaction. Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Shirley Sealy Film Journal International The appeal here--and it's a strong one--comes from writer-director Rejtman's great understanding of, and empathy for, the comedy of life. isla s I found this a delightfully quirky film, with a variety of different characters and situations. It was interesting how one thing impacted on another. I liked that its quite understated and it is amusing, if perhaps only lightly. Its a nice and relaxed sort of a film - a good example of world cinema that I would recommend to others. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A cosy movie with a Kaurismakian gloss. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Los guantes magicos, en castellano. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Ganz witzig, wenn auch nicht gerade ein Film, der einen vom Hocker reißt. Nada mas que eso Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
