Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com The intent of the production is clear, but the execution is hopelessly mangled, leaving a picture that commences with dignity and concludes as an absolute mess. Rated: C Apr 20, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Zoe K Romantic, suspenseful…love the Wilkie Collins vibes, but the romance bits are my favorite. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/17/23 Full Review Vicki M This movie had so much potential. But the film is like two different movies in one. I wish the whole movie was like the first 20 minutes and last 2 minutes and 30 seconds. And a few other scenes are ok. But that's it. The pace is excruciatingly slow. And the music that's supposed to set the tone in various scenes is so heavy handed. The director fumbled a film that could have been enjoyable storytelling if it had been done well. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/26/23 Full Review lidia l Loved the story and style. A comfort movie for me Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/07/23 Full Review Audience Member I truly enjoyed this movie. It held my attention and was never boring. Very suspenseful and entertaining. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review jane c (Contains veiled spoilers) This is a romance between two uncomplicated, pleasant, fairly serious people, who are accustomed to doing their duty. The romantic scenes in this movie are tender, intimate and very moving. The love story is absolutely charming. It is unfortunate that the first section passes so quickly; it would have been nice to see Emily and James grow closer still. The majority of the movie consists of the suspenseful section during which Emily is seriously threatened, and is fairly intense for someone who does not like frightening movies. This movie is very well acted, and the two principals are excellent. I felt that this movie could have been great if James's speech at Emily's bedside after his return had gone deeper; if James had been able to tell her how much he admired her and been attracted by her competence and sensible nature, as well as loved her, before he proposed. And if there had been another seen afterward during which we get to relish their reunion. The tenderness and joy of these two when in each other's company, however, makes this movie well worth watching - even though one is left wanting more scenes of them together. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Frances H I do love Frances Hodgson Burnett, and they made this story into something more along the lines of Wilkie Collins than the author of The Little Princess, although both go in for melodrama.
