Martin B Alan Ladd performs the one part he's capable of. Tightly wrapped as an artist in this movie with a loosey goosey script where a lot that happens depends on things that could never really happen. Including a band of children helping Ladd's character with the precision of a well ordered military unit. But the kids were wonderful, their rolls making the entire story unique seeing the artist's innocence when the rest of the town was ready to lynch him. A really nice example of a late 50's, early 60's whodunit. Black and white but all the scenes visually crisp and clear with interesting backdrops in a rural setting. Good if not great supporting cast the exception being Caroline Jones the erratic wife to Ladd's low key, loyal spouse characterization. Under rated in my view I've seen it twice and loved it each time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/23 Full Review Steve D Too unpleasant to enjoy. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/13/23 Full Review Bernard K One of the dumbest movies ever created. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/15/22 Full Review Audience Member So-so mystery had a capsule description that made me think this was going to be a much more action filled and noirish story. Michael Curtiz directed this tale of artist Alan Ladd is accused of murdering his boozy wife, Carolyn Jones, and then trying to clear his name. That sounded pretty good, but it ends up that Ladd spends a lot of tim hiding out in a cave with some children who help him clear his good name. It's not a bad film, but I think it could have been a lot better. I was picturing something more like "The Fugitive." Charles McGraw also appears in the film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member just ok kinda muddled Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The acting in this movie is so weird and the kids in it freak me out. Sometimes I wondered if they were really midgets instead of kids. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
