Wagner's soaring masterpiece makes its triumphant return to the Met stage after 17 years. In a sequel to his revelatory production of Parsifal, director François Girard unveils an atmospheric staging that once again weds his striking visual style and keen dramatic insight to Wagner's breathtaking music, with Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct a supreme cast led by tenor Piotr Beczała in the title role of the mysterious swan knight. Soprano Tamara Wilson is the virtuous duchess Elsa, falsely accused of murder, going head to head with soprano Christine Goerke as the cunning sorceress Ortrud, who seeks to lay her low. Bass-baritone Evgeny Nikitin is Ortrud's power-hungry husband, Telramund, and bass Günther Groissböck is King Heinrich.

Laura Angeles The next best experience to seeing opera live at the MET. Choreography was exceptional and performance outstanding. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/23/23 Full Review Jeanne Beautiful opera - music and singing were excellent. Staging different than traditional "swan" suggested rather than actually shown. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/19/23 Full Review Loretta C Like all the Live from the Met HD transmissions, this one was absolutely stunning! It always amazes me to think that a live broadcast is happening in real time in NYC, thousands of miles away from my local movie theater. The technology they employ to make this possible is astonishing. Sound, camera angles, lighting, set changes, subtitles, everything is perfect -- not to mention gorgeous costumes and sets, and most important of all, the incredible artistry of the performers and musicians! The broadcasts, whether live or "Encore" are truly a treasure. This new production of Lohengrin is simply spectacular. I wish I go could see it in person -- but then again, watching grand opera on a large screen has many benefits that would be missed by the audience in the opera house. You can see the emotions on the faces, proving that these performers are world class musicians and accomplished actors, too. This is not an old-fashioned night at the opera. If you've never experienced one of these broadcasts, you should give it a try. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/23 Full Review SLP Beautifully done. Small problem in Act 3 with temporary overlay of captions for another film on top of opera subtitles Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/23 Full Review Charles J All of it. Love it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/23 Full Review Jane B Wonderful performance. The principles (but one) were great. It was a shame the theater management turned the house lights up during the interviews and the curtain calls. That washed out the video and captions.
