After years of anticipation, a truly unmissable event arrives in cinemas worldwide on March 21 as the electrifying Lise Davidsen tackles one of the ultimate roles for dramatic soprano: the Irish princess Isolde in Wagner's transcendent meditation on love and death. Heroic tenor Michael Spyres stars opposite Davidsen as the love-drunk Tristan. The momentous occasion also marks the advent of a new, Met-debut staging by Yuval Sharon--hailed by The New York Times as "the most visionary opera director of his generation" and the first American to direct an opera at the famed Wagner festival in Bayreuth--as well as Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin's first time leading Tristan und Isolde at the Met. Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova reprises her portrayal of Brangäne, alongside bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, who sings Kurwenal after celebrated Met appearances in Wagner's Der Fliegende Holländer and Ring cycle. Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green makes an important role debut as King Marke.

Robert C Mar 26 It was an experience of a lifetime. The ACTS 2 & 3 blew me away! The voices were outstanding,. The stage design and management were works of outstanding creativity. Wagner's music was overwhelming as were his lyrics. See more Susan Mar 26 Tristan und Isolde. was exquisite. Perfect in every way. The combination with Yannick conducting, Lise Davidson, Michael Spyres— really all of them —was incredible. And I did love the production vision of Yuval Sharon—contemporary and exquisite!! Wagner is difficult, but incredible. The five hours flew by. I loved every note of it. Im still floating on love potion! See more Martha V Mar 26 Noteworthy performance by all, unique staging, technically impressive (except for 2 minute hiatus of sound) - very long, but definitely worthwhile. See more David Elledge Mar 26 Only complaint: you hear and feel the loud music from the film next door. Very annoying during the quiet parts of the opera. See more Joanne M Mar 26 I have been going to concerts and performances since attending the Young People's Concerts at Lincoln Center in the 1960s. I often go the Met in-cinema rebroadcasts over the past two years and prior to that I attended live shows at The Met Opera in NYC. This performance was so profoundly beautiful in all aspects, the music conducted by Yannick, the orchestra, all vocalists, the direction, staging and costumes - but Wagner's music and lyrical expressions were sublime, beautiful and amazing - but so incredibly unsettling and at 68 years old I must reassess my historical musical timeline of the most important composers. This production is a masterpiece. I had to collect myself at the finish and spoke with others who were amazed like me and wjp understood the intensity of the Met's production. And the length was not a problem for me or anyone else in the audience. See more Beryl Mar 26 Loved it. Great opera comfortable seats See more Read all reviews
