What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Mother is a welcome opportunity to see Jennifer Lopez in action hero mode — albeit one that's frustratingly content to coast on genre clichés.

Audience Says

The Mother may not deserve Jennifer Lopez, but she still makes this pretty ordinary action movie worth watching.

This forgettable action thriller is thoroughly derivative. Go to Full Review

Lopez and Caro seem very much in sync as they relate the sprawling tale in a disciplined manner that maintains interest and curiosity, if not high levels of downright excitement. Go to Full Review

From scene to scene, Lopez and Caro do fill these broad outlines with real feeling, bringing a personal touch to old pulp archetypes. Go to Full Review

There’s a lot of regret peppered throughout The Mother, but the biggest one is thinking about what kind of touching, traumatic tale the filmmakers could have birthed. Go to Full Review

Jennifer Lopez makes, I think, a pretty good action star... This is sort of a generic action-flick that you may watch and forget about it about three minutes after seeing it. Go to Full Review

Goose R. @rodrigug Aug 17 Jenifer lopez plays an ex army sniper that had dealing with both a weapons runner and drug dealers. She gets knocked up and ends up placing her daughter on witness protection, all goes well until the daughter gets made. The concept is good but the story is predictable and cheesy. Not to mentioned that is cruel. Shows lopez hunting and talks about how she kills different animals. Reprimands the daughter for showing compassion for the animals and explains the circle of life 🙄 🍿/5 on Netflix See more Jul 2 JLo is back in an action film. The last time I saw her in an action film was in the movie Enough. Just in time for mother's day, the story revolves around how a mother will do anything to keep her daughter safe. The story, however, is weak and cliche-ridden. But it is action packed and the story moves along well. I just wish there was more meat to this movie with better character development and a fresher script. You'll most likely enjoy it. It has great entertainment value and you won't waste your time watching it. See more Eric A. @eric6060 Jun 29 Great movie. Jlo needs to do more action movies See more Igor S Mar 30 Another Jennnifer Lopez stinker. Avoid at all costs. See more Stephen F Feb 26 Yes, there are some decent action sequences but overall the story is fragmented and at times downright stupid. For instance, immediately following daughter's rescue and during the gas station stop it took the writers about 1 minute to plow through the "are you my mother" question with zero lead up or explanation of how the question even came about. Skip this movie for your own sanity. 😉 See more Jessica C Jan 16 It's alright. It's a one-time watch kind of film. Not really my favorite. See more Read all reviews
