Rex Reed Observer For an alleged psychological thriller, The Night Clerk has no thrills, suspense or tension. Rated: 1/4 Feb 21, 2020 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Forget the half-baked investigation and quarter-baked love story -- the real mystery here is how this movie is so boring. Rated: 1.5/4 Feb 21, 2020 Full Review Katie Rife AV Club [I]t's a bit ironic that in hindsight The Night Clerk will be remembered, if at all, as a movie de Armas was way too good for-an unfortunate mile marker on her road to movie stardom. Rated: C- Feb 21, 2020 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “The Night Clerk” is an enigma in itself. It’s hard to gauge its convictions or tell where it lands. Rated: 3/5 Aug 24, 2022 Full Review Caitlin Kennedy But Why Tho? A Geek Community The Night Clerk is quite the refreshing film experience. Full of intrigue and totally engrossing, the film seems to do the very most with the bare essentials. Rated: 7/10 Jun 26, 2020 Full Review John Serba Decider The Night Clerk is a big, flat dud. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review Jeff M One could feasibly argue that this feels somewhat like a 21st century version of Hitchcock's REAR WINDOW. Except for the original's suspense. And style. And direction. And performances. Etc... As much as I hate remakes, the idea of a new REAR WINDOW is very appealing to me, considering the advances in technology since 1954 when the only means of spying was a pair of binoculars. But back to the film at hand. This is a D.O.A drag of a movie with no chills or thrills or any sense of fun. I also question the reason why the filmmakers felt it necessary to give the main character Asperger's syndrome. While I don't think it necessarily feels exploitative, it also adds nothing to the story itself and with a few tweaks could have easily been changed. Sheridan feels over the top to me, but not personally knowing anyone with this malady, I am hesitant to judge the performance. And I really hate to admit this because it's very judgmental of me, but I was distracted anytime Hunt came onscreen because I'm concerned about the amount of plastic surgery she has had. The performance being quite shrill didn't help matters any. I actually really love the concept here, which I think is full of potential, but this feels lazy and uninvolving without a single second of pulse-raising intensity. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Matthew R Not the most suspenful film but was having Ana de Armas in there was good enough for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Anthony J An easy watch that kept me intrigued to the end. Tye Sheridan was very convincing portraying somebody socially awkward with Asperger Syndrome. Helen Hunt was also very good as the concerned mother. I felt it ended slightly premature, I would have like to have seen just a little bit more of the aftermath of the arrest. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Gianmarco R The film as its plot is interesting until almost the end where literally everything is ruined with a hideous, useless and practically meaningless ending, with the ending a very good film with an original and disturbing idea is destroyed and that had managed to create a good atmosphere, really a horrendous shame about the ending.
