Jane B I was a young artist living in the 9th Ward of New Orleans when Nita and Zita's treasure trove was first discovered. We didn't know who these mysterious creatures were, or where they came from, but all of us in the neighborhood felt that they belonged to us. We knew them as the ultimate Bohemians, two beautiful souls who made their own unique language and lived the expression of their dreams. They were our neighborhood elder muses and they taught us how to be artists. How to invent and be industrious. The importance of pom-poms, of course, and painted shoes. I loved them so. We all did. The best part about this wonderful movie is how much the director reveals about them with her meticulous research and how well she weaves it into a great story. I'm sad they died so alone and forgotten, without each other, but I am happy to see that they are finally getting a chance for the world to see just how beautiful and glamorous and original they really are. I hope more stories are made about Nita and Zita. Highly recommended! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review E H A beautiful glimpse into the lives of two uniquely creative women. Thoughtful storytelling & a film with truly magnificent graphic artistry! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Eva M This is such a fun film to watch! It's truly amazing to learn about how these sisters navigated a turbulent time all the while keeping that strong desire to create and perform, and how important legacy is to keep inspiring artists to maintain that desire within themselves. Would definitely recommend this film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Jennifer S This was a very well done film. I found it to be a beautiful inspiring story about resilience! A lot of work went into authentic details. Highly recommend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Stefanie R Step into a long ago magical world that's both mesmerizing and grounded in authentic detail. The best documentaries should teach you something, and this one delivers by revealing the intricate artistry and surprising respectability of burlesque performers who were far more than mere entertainers—they were skilled artists navigating a complex social landscape. Through intimate interviews and stunning archival footage, you can practically see, feel, and touch this vanished world. The film captures not just the glamour and spectacle, but the genuine camaraderie among performers and the economic realities they faced. What's most poignant is watching this vibrant subculture gradually fade as social attitudes shifted and venues closed—a reminder that even the most colorful chapters of our cultural history inevitably become memory.
