Marla G I first saw this in the summer of 2008, in Vienna, when it was playing at an outdoor festival in front of the Rathaus. I was thrilled to find out when I returned home to Chicago, that I could purchase a DVD of it. I watch it every Christmas, and share it with friends and family in my home and on line. It IS the best Nutcracker presentation I've ever seen!! So artistic and entertaining. Having performed in 17 Nutcrackers and having seem many different versions-this is by far my least favorite. The costuming and story alone I find odd and confusing. The dancing beautiful- you can't expect anything less from the Mariinsky. But I simply am not a fan of the the way they tell this beloved story.
