After his wife mysteriously dies and an autopsy is done, Gregory Black (David Farrar) discovers that she was poisoned. Inspector Martin (Roland Culver) is in charge of finding the murderer. Gregory is immediately considered a prime suspect, but so are his secretary and mistress, Elizabeth Grahame (Geraldine Fitzgerald), and his maid, Ellen (Jean Cadell). Inspector Martin has his work cut out for him as each suspect tries to appear less guilty than the others.
