S P A well rounded film that follows the life of the Cousteau family, the ups and downs, the good and bad. Touches many different subjects. The story and scenes are well shot, the pace is great. A chance to rediscover the fabulous work done by Commander Cousteau to elevate the sense of discovery and adventure in all, his darker parts notwithstanding. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review isla s I thought this was an insightful film about Jacques Cousteau's life. I hadn't known much about him before seeing this film. I thought it featured some good performances, particularly from Audrey Tautou as Jacque's wife, Simone and also from Pierre Niney, as Jacque's son, Philippe. It's a family drama and I felt I could understand the issues that both the wife and son had with the infamous Jacques. I certainly felt he came across as quite a selfish person and also very much a dreamer. The story intrigued me and the performances helped make this a somewhat solid watch, although I can't say its a film I'd rush to watch again. Its a good watch though and if your particularly interested in the Cousteau family, then I'd recommend it, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Liam D While not the best Bopic on Jacques-Yves Cousteau the direction by Jérôme Salle (Largo Winch, Zulu) but it has charming performances by Lambert Wilson (The Princess of Montpensier, Of Gods and Men) and Audrey Tautou (Coco Before Chanel, Microbe and Gasoline) and score by Alexandre Desplat (The Beat That My Heart Skipped, Tale of Tales) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/16/22 Full Review lanfranco c An Odyssey in the Soul of a Sea Lover Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review rory s Very interesting movie about a well known public figure. Tara Brady Irish Times Jrme Salle's big-budget biopic L'Odysse is at its best when recreating Cousteau's oceanic adventures. Rated: 3/5 Aug 23, 2017 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) Sunbeams illuminating tropical fish, sea lions shimmying through a kelp forest -- some of the underwater photography is gorgeous in Jrme Salle's glossy French-language biopic of Jacques Cousteau. Rated: 3/5 Aug 23, 2017 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian This conventional, unadventurous biopic ploddingly tells the story of the French ocean explorer and film-maker Jacques Cousteau - though the underwater sequences are stunning. Rated: 3/5 Aug 18, 2017 Full Review Rachel Brook One Room With A View Lush and wonderfully cinematic, The Odyssey turns Cousteau's scientific and filmic endeavours into a rich drama rather than the dull biopic it could have been. Rated: 4/5 Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Yago García Cinemanía (Spain) ... we can not help but wonder if this film is, despite everything, hiding something.
