Laden with flimsy jump scares and cheap stereotypes, The Other Side of the Door wastes solid work from Sarah Wayne Callies on thoroughly middling horror fare.

Even if this effort isn't quite up to snuff I still feel like [Roberts has] got a picture in him that potentially will be. Go to Full Review

Effective performances by the principals are unable to surmount the movie's many cliches, although the actors render them more endurable. Go to Full Review

With less than a 100-minute long run-time... a nonsensical premise, shoddy execution on practically every level and absolutely no scares whatsoever, The Other Side Of The Door is best avoided at all costs. Go to Full Review

If you want to be scared out of your mind, I suggest you choose a different film - Paranormal Activity perhaps. The other side of the door was an idea that had some potential, but it definitely doesn't live up to it. Go to Full Review

Claudio C Nov 8 The Other Side of the Door (2016) Underrated Horror Movie (12,045– 07 Nov 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) The antique dealer Michael (Jeremy Sisto) travels to Mumbai, India, with his beloved wife Maria (Sarah Wayne Callies) three times a year to buy new pieces. Maria proposes they live in Mumbai and raise a family of their own. Six years later, Maria is still grieving the loss of their son Oliver (Logan Creran), who died drowned in a car accident where Maria was only able to save their daughter Lucy (Sofia Rosinsky). When she tries to commit suicide swallowing pills, her maid Piki (Suchitra Pillai) tells her that in her village, there is an ancient temple where she can contact Oliver to make her farewell to him. She instructs Maria to take Oliver’s ashes, drop them outside the temple, and warns her to never open the door. Maria travels to the temple alone and does not tell Michael the purpose of her trip. When Oliver talks to her, she opens the door of the temple, affecting the lives of her family and Piki. “The Other Side of the Door” (2016) is an underrated horror movie, with a great supernatural story. The plot has magnificent performances by Sarah Wayne Callies and Jeremy Sisto, well supported by Suchitra Pillai and Sofia Rosinsky and is based on the Hindu belief of reincarnation and purification of the soul. Surprisingly there are several negative reviews of this good film. My vote is seven. Indian horror theme, which was different. Solid acting from the cast. Stronger start, end let it down a touch. See more Dehemi D Feb 22 The film "The other side of the door" is a horror film which I'd say that it is not that much scary. This plot follows a typical horror plot, following what shouldn't be done and suffering afterwards. However I think it shows unconditional love of mothers ( both Maria and Piki) towards their kids. See more Hannah M 12/15/2024 This film is completely underrated. Suspenseful from start to finish and a must watch for any horror fan. See more Liam D @Mediawatcher2003 12/01/2024 As studio horror movies goes it has the most generic jump scares I’ve ever seen despite a strong lead performance See more Anon A 02/28/2024 Extremely underrated. Fun watch. The horror movie genre is very difficult to succeed in. While this movie employs a few cliches, it is not nearly as bad as these reviews make it out to be. Definitely worth watching, especially if you've already watched most of the popular movies of this genre. See more Read all reviews
