G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle In lesser hands "The Other Story" might have felt overloaded and uneven. But Nesher moves through the material with a clear and quiet confidence, aided by a uniformly excellent cast. Aug 21, 2019 Full Review Nell Minow RogerEbert.com Nesher skillfully balances a lot of characters and storylines, each illustrating a different kind of Israeli and a different connection to Jewish life, culture, and practice, but he never lets any of them become symbolic rather than real. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 28, 2019 Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times More popular melodrama than the usual exercise in high art, it whipsaws us with so many unexpected passions and surprising events that holding on to your seat is strongly recommended. Jun 27, 2019 Full Review David Lamble Bay Area Reporter Israeli filmmaker Avi Nesher's The Other Story is a multilayered, soap-opera-style drama that explores just how interesting Israel's "Wild East" neighborhood can be. May 27, 2020 Full Review Andrew Parker The Gate The Other Story has a great core idea that's executed with such brazen and over the top emotional manipulation that one almost wants to press assault charges against it. Rated: 4.5/10 Jul 24, 2019 Full Review Harvey S. Karten Shockya.com Yet another rigorous story of a woman's rebellion against her father and her entire religious upbringing. Tom H The Other Story's arc is familiar and unpredictable at the same time, because people are flawed and family relationships are complicated. When you think the story's going left and it turns right, it is paced well to let you catch your breath. The script knows when to be quiet because people aren't sure what to say next. The Israeli religious community setting is not essential; these big little dramas can, and do, happen anywhere. I liked it more than I thought I would. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This has all the ingredients of a good film, including a cast of disparate characters, all of whom I couldn't help but like even though some of them didn't like each other much. It's also a memorable film, one that you will think back on a lot after watching it. Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Susan T I liked the characters and the the conflict beween secular and relgious Jews in Israel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/23/19 Full Review Ariel Its was an amazing film Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/19 Full Review Racheli R Love to see people and family interaction, reaction and behavior. This movie make you think hours and days after... I highly recommend it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/18/19 Full Review Read all reviews
