Roxana Hadadi Punch Drunk Critics An enlightening film could be made about the Ottoman Empire in the days before World War I, that particular place at that particular time, but The Ottoman Lieutenant isn't it. Rated: 2/5 Mar 13, 2017 Full Review Gary M. Kramer Salon.com "The Ottoman Lieutenant" is all over the map in terms of tone, genre and acting styles. Mar 10, 2017 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times We can smell the rancid coats of paint on this attempt to whitewash history. Rated: 1/4 Mar 10, 2017 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed it has some issues with the historical side of its story but the romance is not bad and not overly sweet. It works on the surface as a romance film and looks stunning while doing so. Rated: 3/5 Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com The film collapses underneath the weight of its perilously hokey clichés and renders itself obsolete. Rated: 1.5/5 Oct 5, 2019 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com I guess the lesson of The Ottoman Lieutenant is simple: If you're gonna make a shameful piece of revisionist propaganda, at least make it entertaining. John T Propaganda infested romanticized portrayal of a false relationship between the Ottoman Empire and American culture and the horrendous demonization of the Armenian people are all much too big of a factor for me to rate this any higher than half a star. Acting is subpar and the historical accuracy of this film failed in many ways. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review George B Poor Turkish propaganda service, attempt to rewrite history, to invert the perpetrator with victim. Paid by the Turkish government. It is well know in history, how Ottomans massacred the Armenians, no matter how hard they try to fake history, it will not work. Unfortunately they had used this propaganda technique on their own you g generation, it will only perpetuate the hateful ideas and the killing. No to propaganda movie, it is worst than the old communist propaganda movies. No to hate, agression, massacres. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review isla s This film features some impressive cinematography, with foreign landscapes shown off via aerial photography. There are some good battle scenes too but the basic plot was a little bland. I thought it was no better than average really, overall. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Scott R If there was a movie here I must have missed it. Probably because I fell asleep. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/22 Full Review Audience Member I'm so annoyed I wasted my time waiting for this movie to get better. There's no passion, no character, no creativity, no good plot. It's like a WWI era Twilight plot but worse acting and less chemistry, while whitewashing the brutal Armenian genocide. The lead males would maybe be OK if it weren't for the bad, uninteresting script. I don't know who the heck casted the lead actress, but she brings nothing to the character. She might as well be Bella Swan: no personality or facial expressions. I could go on, but you get the gist. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked it...I liked the actors, especially the male and female lead. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
