Archi Sengupta LeisureByte.com The movie is long and sometimes the storyline gets a bit too stretched thin to cover the runtime but it’s a delight to watch if you feel like you need someone to understand your feelings. Rated: 3/5 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review James Marsh South China Morning Post While The Parades never quite reaches Earth-shaking levels of profound melodrama, the results may well force a tear or two. Rated: 3/5 May 9, 2024 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse “The Parades” incorporates all the good and the bad of contemporary Japanese cinema, but definitely succeeds in one very important factor, of putting a smile on the face of its viewer, which is what deems the movie a success in the end. Rated: 6 Mar 21, 2024 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media Movies about people who don't know they are dead are not unusual, so what is new here? Mar 11, 2024 Full Review James Hadfield Japan Times The Parades is just as gentle as Kore-eda’s movie [After Life], but it doesn’t reach the same depths, either in its meditations on mortality and memory or on the nature of film itself. Thomas A A nice, sweet supernatural drama that kept me hooked the entire show. Although the lack of ghostly special effects diluted the experience. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/01/24 Full Review Dixie M I liked it very much. I enjoy magical realism, and thought this movie was a good example of fine acting and a gentle story. It reminded me of short stories by Borges and a bit of Hundred Years of Solitude. It may not be to everyone's taste but I did recommend it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Hadassah Ministry H This is a wonderful, powerful movie that makes you think about your interactions with people in your life. Although I believe what the Bible teaches in 2 Corinthians 5:8 "…that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord," this film is thought provoking and takes you through a whirlwind of emotions. You'll love it; just get your tissues ready. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Luis Miguel V Espectacular y hermoso drama japonés. Una hermosa forma de ver el paso del alma por el purgatorio. Una película para reflexionar sobre nuestro paso por la vida terrenal. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/15/24 Full Review Joe R An immaculate depiction of love after death. Beautiful cinematography and realistic writing make this a beautiful experience both visually and emotionally. In addition to its beautifully told story, the film satisfies with each bittersweet, and tearjerking climax to our character's journeys. Will definitely be checking out more from this director. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Peter W I must agree with Danielle, the only other person who has commented on the film so far. A beautiful film about our collective humanity, heartwarming and poignant. Like Danielle, I will watch this again. Wonderful performances by all concerned as well. The only actor I had seen before, in more than one film, is Lily Franky. Damn but he is wonderful. I recently saw the highly touted "Perfect Days", and though I also greatly admire Koji Yakusho, who I have also seen in multiple films, Franky here impresses me much more than Yakusho in Perfect Days. I was also much more moved by this film than Perfect Days. Yes, I admit it...I am a softee. I cried with this film; I did not with Perfect Days. A side note: if you enjoyed this I highly recommend the Japanese film "Afterlife" and the German film "Wings of Desire", both also touching cinematic achievements in my opinion. (Danielle, when you do a viewing of this movie with friends, don't forget to send me an invitation! Even if you don't show it at Hoshisunaza -- although seeing it there would make it doubly cool!)
