Tom Ellen Empire Magazine Despite the compelling high concept — and some epic action set-pieces — there’s not quite enough meat on the bones of this dystopian follow-up to make it truly worthy of its predecessor.  Rated: 2/5 Oct 8, 2024 Full Review Jesse Hassenger Guardian Gaztelu-Urrutia seems to be regarding his own concept from level 0, treating it as a frantic all-you-can-eat buffet that may be snatched away at any moment. Rated: 2/5 Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Matt Donato AV Club The allegorical simplicity of Netflix’s The Platform makes it brilliant—a sequel seems antithetical. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Mikel Zorrilla Espinof A film that starts out quite strong but runs out of ideas after about 20-30 minutes and then settles for being a sort of wilder version of its predecessor. (Full Review in Spanish) Rated: 4/10 Nov 15, 2024 Full Review Dolores Quintana Santa Monica Mirror The Platform 2 is an unflinchingly ugly and beautiful depiction of humanity at its best and worst, showing our capacity for rage and violence as well as our potential for love, forgiveness, and understanding. Nov 11, 2024 Full Review Kevin Harley Radio Times Even with plenty of shock developments on offer, it becomes increasingly tough to care who will be dismembered next. Darío C Although the first one was original and innovative, this one is too repetitive, and brings the concept to a uncomprehensive point. It's just boring and pointless. Not necessary at all. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Christian K Definitely a step down from the first, and unnecessarily a prequel for some reason. The concept and setting is still great, just kind of already wearing thin on its potential. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Hugh J A worthy follow-up that does justice to the high-concept conversation started by the original with enough action sequences, suspense, and mystery to give the viewer a break from the larger message this film promotes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Jacob C Does a great job of incorporating some of the ideas, people, and concepts from the original film, yet fails to establish itself as an interesting movie. It was boring, confusing, and relied too much on aspects outside of the psychological peril that would better suit the narrative. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Rodolfo G I didn't like it. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying it's more of the same. I don't know if El Hoyo needed another movie and if they decided so with the prequel, I would have gone a little further back, at the beginning of El Hoyo. Anyway, I feel that it was a poorly achieved idea, with a poorly achieved script; I think they didn't get the idea they tried to convey right. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Audience Member Unfortunately The Platform 2 fails to reach the heights of the originals greatness and reeks of unreached potential. The Platform 2 reaffirms what we learn from the original that the worst danger to humans is ourselves, while also introducing the danger that religion can pose in creating a cult like culture that compromises morals in favour of self-righteousness. It also lacks depth with their being no real religious subtext, we just have a self declared messiah for no reason. Compared to the first movie, this sequel does feel like it's lacking something, though I am not too sure as to what exactly. Potentially the issue is the constant rehashing of moral dilemmas I am already familiar with as well as nothing truly feeling original in the subject matter and subtext of The Platform 2 that wasn't already explored in the original. What we do have added is Perempuán's battle with guilt over the death of a young man, that then comes full circle in the final act. I feel there's too much going on in this movie for it's own good, what made the original so strong was that it was such a solitary movie, The Platform 2 introduces so many side characters that then immediately die before you can feel attached to them. I did love Perempuán and Zamiatin's dynamic and really wish they were together for longer. I appreciate the final act in the exploration of the system of 'the pit' as well as the visuals being fairly stunning but holy fuck why did this movie end almost exactly the same as it's predecessor and then join both endings into one?1 I am severely dissatisfied.
