Tom Ellen Empire Magazine Despite the compelling high concept — and some epic action set-pieces — there’s not quite enough meat on the bones of this dystopian follow-up to make it truly worthy of its predecessor.  Rated: 2/5 Oct 8, 2024 Full Review Jesse Hassenger Guardian Gaztelu-Urrutia seems to be regarding his own concept from level 0, treating it as a frantic all-you-can-eat buffet that may be snatched away at any moment. Rated: 2/5 Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Matt Donato AV Club The allegorical simplicity of Netflix’s The Platform makes it brilliant—a sequel seems antithetical. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Mikel Zorrilla Espinof A film that starts out quite strong but runs out of ideas after about 20-30 minutes and then settles for being a sort of wilder version of its predecessor. (Full Review in Spanish) Rated: 4/10 Nov 15, 2024 Full Review Dolores Quintana Santa Monica Mirror The Platform 2 is an unflinchingly ugly and beautiful depiction of humanity at its best and worst, showing our capacity for rage and violence as well as our potential for love, forgiveness, and understanding. Nov 11, 2024 Full Review Kevin Harley Radio Times Even with plenty of shock developments on offer, it becomes increasingly tough to care who will be dismembered next. Gabriel S The Platform 2 is one of those movies that is hard to grade, usually requiring grading on two perspectives: regular audience and alternative audience. The former usually cares about entertaining value; the latter tolerates mistakes in favor of intricate design. Judging this movie for regular audience is easy, this is a movie most people will find weird, perhaps even hard to watch. The entertaining value exists to some extent, mainly due to the thriller element of anticipation for what other crazy plot point will happen at the Vertical Self-Management Center, fairground considering the shenanigans that we experienced in the first entry of The Platform Universe. But, still, regular audience might figure that the movie is quite slow, and the lack of setting change should throw them off on grounds that the story is lacking new features, it is just repeating the first movie with additional violence. Look beyond regular entertainment and you should see that The Platform 2 sets substantial foundation for a third entry, hence suffering from Second Entry Fever. The Platform 2 is cleverly designed, building lore and making a good connection with the previous movie, meanwhile throwing some harsh critical commentary on Justice and Social Equality. Though, are you watching a documentary? Its uniqueness does not save the staleness of waiting for the conclusion. One should realize quickly that, this having 2 in its name, and talks of a trilogy, The Platform 2 is that limbo entry that explains a few things here and there but leaves it all open for the final act. Watchable if you plan to see the full trilogy, but, other than that, not really a great piece. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Obi-wan K Dead Fucking movie. Highground Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/17/24 Full Review Shaun R I loved the first film but the sequel is as messy as the scraps of food and bodily fluids left on the platform. Sometimes, simple is best which is what the original mastered. This just wasn’t enjoyable in any way, shape or form. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/17/24 Full Review Annette B Still a bit confused by the ending, but after watching a few “ending explained” videos, as well as reading multiple interpretations, I guess they never really meant for it to make complete sense. What I did gather from all of this is that George Orwell was right when he said, “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Many political and religious systems could potentially be the metaphorical target in terms of pointing out its flaws, but what I liked about this film was the way the main character managed to redeem herself through sacrifice. Finally, the idea that a child is the message, tells me there’s a constant desire that the administration wants to prove that even in a society of utter chaos, there will always be a glimmer of hope—someone willing to sacrifice it all for a new generation. That said, if you thought the first movie was gruesome, this one takes the cake, I was more than a little shocked by the lengths they went to to tell the story. Regardless, worth a watch, if you can bare it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Mark C See comment from the first movie.
