Phil Hoad Guardian Simon Ross’s capable debut can be hung in a gallery of films featuring unnerving paintings, from The Picture of Dorian Gray to Ghostbusters 2 and In the Mouth of Madness. Rated: 3/5 Dec 6, 2023 Full Review Keri O'Shea Warped Perspective Akin to lots of the very best ghost stories then, events move slowly, always casting doubt on what is happening, hinting at the contextual problems at play here: families; family legacies; the toxic effects of privilege; the lives of women. Dec 17, 2023 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews A slow moving dark Gothic film. Rated: B- Dec 16, 2023 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film There is an effort here to do something new with this type of heroine, and to give her fresh agency, whilst exploring something of what it is that intrigues many women about the monstrous men in the Gothic. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 14, 2023 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The Portrait is a film that comes off bland and like something that could have used a bit more something. The film feels like it’s a start of something, but with unfinished ideas and direction that is just content with being just there. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 14, 2023 Full Review Peter Gray The AU Review The Portrait manages to appear as a fresh piece of art thanks to the sum of all its creators within. Alkaff Z For me personally this movie is quite nice but poor story telling on how the potrait of calvin is alive and literally haunted alex. For me this movie could have more plot twist than only flat climax from the beginning till the end. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review lee A Awful !!!!! Poor storyline poor acting , Tom and Jerry is more scary ha , how can the writers sleep at night writing this dross really disappointed i've wasted good money on such a poor film , didn't make sense at all and i mean at all avoid at all costs Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Kelly B I'm confused as to how this movie received fairly positive ratings?? Sites that are always bang-on with their movie reviews are giving it 75%, 6.1/10 etc. ?? Very unimpressed with the whole movie in general, especially the acting and the storyline Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Ghous A umm just boring asf>>! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/21/23 Full Review fabio v too lazy to elaborate its plot beyond its premise. The movie thinks it is enough to let the single idea it has work its way into an illusion of plot; but when the final reveal comes, what should be a surprise feels trite, as it should have been given to us earlier to develop a context from which the plot could have, eventually emerged. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/15/23 Full Review Voodoo V So boring I couldn't finish, they mostly walked around and researched stuff.
