Audience Member You're all horribly wrong. You're naive protected children. This movie is about a man simultaneously coping with what he's done and where his is now. A life only understandable by those who've caused trauma and ensured trauma as a result. The details are secondary to the journey. Not every fucking movie is as obvious as Kubrick you dick heads. Think for gods sake! Think!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a movie for a select audience, I know. So I was going to try and keep the stars low until I saw that others loved it - while others hated it. I loved it. It spoke to me on a number of levels and I believe the social commentary as The Rambler rambled along meeting many ne'rer do wells was quite on target. It has great visuals, plenty of gore, and enough suspense to have kept me guessing. It does make you often question the meaning, but I felt the more I tried to find the meaning the quicker I lost sight of the experience. So I just settled in with a bag of popcorn and let it happen. If you are a fan of existential trips through life/time/existence, you may just like this one! Oh, and the laughs are there, too :D Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Quirky darkly comedic and quite surreal road picture with plentiful horror elements. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Total garbage. Gave up halfway through it was that bad. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Clearly I stand somewhat alone, but I really enjoyed Calvin Reeder's 'rambling, twisted and gory experiment in horror comedy. Reeder manages to infuse a sort of demented glee in peeking into the darker corners of what I would call "negative Americana" This is not a filmmaker interested in narrative plot. He is looking to provoke, creep and disturb his audience into some uncomfortable chuckles. It's also cool to see Dermot Mulroney step into a role so vastly different from what we normally seem him do. Certainly, this is not a movie that will be pleasing to mainstream tastes. But for those of us who enjoy an artistic but darkly comedic journey through the darkest psyche of American highways, back roads and forgotten small towns --- it is a memorable ride. Justin Lowe Hollywood Reporter Misguided exercise in genre fetishism marks a forgettable misfire. Jun 19, 2013 Full Review Amy Nicholson Los Angeles Times What all of this means is, frankly, nothing. But it's a handsome nothing, at least until you get sick of the screaming. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 13, 2013 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times Foreboding images abound - crawling lizards, mysterious lights in the sky, a funereal assembly populated by grotesques - along with occasional ambient droning on the soundtrack and moments of mild humor and raw gore. Do the tableaus add up? Not really. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 7, 2013 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com More proof that horror as a genre has been hedged out of midnight movie programming in favor of meandering strangeness. Aug 22, 2019 Full Review C.J. Prince Way Too Indie The Rambler is missing that quality, and as a result it suffers immensely. It's a head-scratcher of a film, but only in that it'll have you wondering how it got made in the first place. Rated: 4/10 Jun 29, 2019 Full Review Matt Donato We Got This Covered I can't say I understand Calvin Lee Reeder's intentions concerning The Rambler, but since there's plenty of room for interpretation, I found my own meaning amongst this wacky mess of mummies and red wine.
