John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) A Cold War horror movie in which vampirism functions as a metaphor for Communism and the forces of anti-Christianity, with Dracula a shadow version of Jesus who performs miracles (he restores a blind girl's sight) and promises immortality... andy f A surprisingly competent Dracula movie, better than many of the Hammer films. There is nothing really new in this (other than Dracula coming to America) but it is decently made and watched at 3am with the rain pouring (as I did) it ticked all the boxes. A forgotten gem. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Low budget "sequel" to Bram Stoker's Dracula about the notorious count coming to America to live near relatives in suburbia. The idea of the gothic count invading suburbia isn't bad, but the film is poorly made all around, acting, production design, and especially the script. The film is done straight, but pales in comparison to the excellent first Christopher Lee Hammer Dracula film that came out this same year. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member In actuality The Return of Dracula doesn't really have a lot of meat on its stake but this movie really grew on me even if I was a little disappointed by it's brisk running time. Much may seem familiar for this formula & truthfully it doesn't trend any new ground for what it is it's highly enjoyable, really making good use of its b/w & able to shift tone w/ the greatest of ease. This is 100% thanks to Francis Lederer. Whenever he shows up on screen the tone completely changes just by his sheer presence..and he doesn't really do all that much. It's just sorta like evil has walked into the room. I like that..a lot! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Kyllä tää vähän campin puolelle menee, mutta oli tässä toisaalta ihan tehokkaitakin kohtauksia. Lähinnä alussa ja lopussa. Valitettavasti toisen pääosan esittäjäm ultimaattinen paskuus laski tehoja. Onneksi tää oli sentään lyhyt. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member The synopsis on here doesn't remind me of the movie at all, I think it just isn't worded well, the movie is about Dracula taking the place of this distant uncle who's supposed to be visiting his family in America, and the daughter starts to fall in love with him, not realizing it's just his vampire powers, or that he is a vampire. It's a cool movie, I'd love to see it again, I saw it on TV.
