In this animated Disney tale, Aladdin (Scott Weinger), Princess Jasmine (Linda Larkin) and the gang are not as free of the menacing sorcerer Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) as they think. Since their last encounter with him, Jafar has been imprisoned in a magic lamp, but an inept thief, Abis Mal (Jason Alexander), is about to change that. Luckily for Aladdin and friends, Jafar's parrot, Iago (Gilbert Gottfried), has switched to their side -- which is good, because they need all the help they can get.

Jimmson J I think reviews are too harsh on this one. I truly enjoyed it and was surprised that I did after seeing the bad rating first Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/26/25 Full Review Angel H It's true that Disney sequels are mostly bad and there are very few sequels that can be considered decent, but the fact that this is the first Disney sequel direct to DVD (the first real Disney sequel was "The Rescuers Down Under")and that it turned out so bad,It was already hinting that this market had no future; even "Aladdin and the 40 Thieves" is five times better than this piece of junk called a "movie." Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Stephen C The worst movie of the voice of Homer Simpson and Jonathan Freeman. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review matthias s *The Return of Jafar* is pure VHS nostalgia — a sequel I wore out as a kid, but revisiting it now is a bit of a magic carpet crash. No Robin Williams hurts bad; Dan Castellaneta does his best, but all I hear is Homer Simpson trying to grant wishes. At least the rest of the original cast shows up. Sadly, the animation quality drops faster than Jafar’s temper, the songs don’t stick, and the story just replays the first movie without adding anything new. It’s watchable if you loved the original, but the magic lamp definitely lost some shine. 2.5/5. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/26/25 Full Review Topher S Direct to video sequel almost as good as the original because it's a pretty much a rehash with most of the same cast Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review BadNews R The Return of Jafar was a disappointment compared to Disney’s first Aladdin film. One of the biggest drawbacks was the absence of Robin Williams as the Genie, a loss that really hurt the sequel’s impact and left the franchise missing some of its original magic. While I did appreciate the continuation of the story and the return of beloved characters, especially Aladdin, the film fell short in both animation quality and overall execution. The visuals felt rushed and lacked the polish and vibrancy that made the original such a timeless classic. It never quite reached the level of spectacle or heart that Disney is known for. That said, there are still aspects worth noting. Jafar’s story is compelling, and his return does provide a deeper look into his character as a villain. I also enjoyed seeing the world of Agrabah expanded, giving audiences a sense of where these characters’ lives went after the first film. However, even with these positives, the movie lacked the depth and attention to detail needed to hold the audience’s attention the way the original did. Ultimately, The Return of Jafar feels more like a made-for-TV continuation than a true cinematic sequel. While it has moments of charm and nostalgia, it doesn’t live up to the iconic status of its predecessor. With stronger animation, Robin Williams back as Genie, and a bit more creative care, this could have been another Disney classic. Instead, it stands as an underwhelming follow-up that never fully captures the magic of Aladdin. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
