      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Rewrite's unremarkable plot is enlivened considerably by its likable cast, adding up to a comedy that coasts capably on the charms of Hugh Grant and his co-stars.

Tim L I liked the movie. It reminds me of the kind of film that was made in the past that were more character driven rather than based on AI generated action. That's also the first lesson in class of Hugh Grant as a failing screenwriter turned college professor. He's found a teaching gig much more out of necessity than love of teaching. The supporting cast is excellent and while the film isn't deeply thoughtful or packed with stunning cinematography, blockbuster action or an unforgettable musical score, the appealing cast and characters make it enjoyable entertainment. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Tony S I'll admit my bias - I'm from the area where the movie is set. However, it has a great cast, and an enjoyable story. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review Jack S A rom-com without much romance and that's only mildly funny? A script about a washed up writer trying to teach writing, that's fairly ropey? It was watchable, partly because of the excellent cast and partly because .. I dunno .. the location? Maybe it reminded me of better films .. so I didn't totally hate it. It wasn't that bad .. but it wasn't that good. I'm sure I'm not the first to quip, but The Rewrite … needs a rewrite. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/12/23 Full Review isla s I enjoyed this - its a bit cheesy but it isn't as 'lovely dovey' as some of Hugh Grants other films which are also categorised as romantic comedies. The plot is interesting and the variety of characters I found interesting - its a relatively quick and easy watch. I thought the story was quite nice and I'm very much for the idea of Hollywood types breaking free of the superficiality of that industry and going elsewhere to do different, new things, such as teach screenwriting, as is the case in this film. I liked the characterisation and aspects of the plot - I'm not sure if there's anything I can say really but overall yes, I'd recommend this film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This film dealed with cynicism, but wasn´t a cynical film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member fast forward is great, no depth to it, love looking at Marisa and students Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
