Stephen Romei The Australian It may be low on budget but it's high on ideas. It's another welcome reminder that, when it comes to making scary Australian movies, it's not mandatory to include men with thick sideburns doing away with backpackers. Melissa M Great little find. Fantastic costumes and make up, 80% of the Actors are kids and they do so well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/04/21 Full Review Audience Member Extreme overacting and just sort of plopped into a plot full of random weirdness. Even explained, this was still a really confusing movie. A lot of it really seemed just made up to look a bit creepy and had very little plot if one at all. Not a scary movie, just weird and messed up. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member A sluggishly paced slog of a movie. While there appears to be some sort of logic if you are willing to suspend disbelief enough, it's certainly not worth the effort to analyze the half-baked metaphors about a mother's... Relationship with her... Lost son... That's as hard as I'm going to try. I'm already putting in more effort than the writers. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Lord of The Flies meets The House On Haunted Hill in the Australian psychological horror thriller, The School. Dr. Amy Wintercraig (Megan Drury) works in a hospital, on the spot where a hundred years ago a school once stood. The school however was burnt down by a trouble child and a lot of people died. As she cares for her comatose son, Dr. Wintercraig dreams of the school and the dead that walk it's decaying hallways, but is she dreaming or is she traveling through purgatory itself? This is one of those indie horror flicks that I felt could have gone either way. The beginning was kind of confusing and the hospital scenes were painfully slow. Things really don't get going until you meet Zac (Will McDonald), who literally makes this movie! McDonald is devilishly good as the charismatic lead of the "bad" kids and really puts on an unbelievable performance. Once Zac and his minions go after the adult intruder, the film becomes a chase through one scary area of the school after another, with surprises and secrets around every corner. A lot of writers would have settled for the secrets of this mysterious haunted school or for the warring groups of children, but the culmination of the two make for a unique paradigm, that will leave you on the edge of your seat. The School definitely takes a while to get going, but once it does, it is one thoroughly enjoyable ride. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A definite MUST SEE!!!!! DO NOT LISTEN TO CRITICS! Maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea, as many of my friends won't watch particular genres as they just aren't interested. I loved that it is more thriller than horror in a sense but not too much of either, more of a supernatural mystery, as you sometimes want to watch something of the sort but the actual horror/thriller is too much. You have a thrilling happy medium in this one. Unfortunately one of those films critics bash that deserve (especially in this case) so much better. Thankfully, it is not one of those stereotypical films that get exhausting seeing the same plot line to the point that you wonder if or feel like you've seen it before. This film truly delivers a unique experience and take on what others as mentioned above are bland regarding hospitals, comas, death etc, the backdrop so to speak. One other thing that I love about this film, and some others where in the sense that as soon as you finish, you (or someone like me) want to immediately watch at least the first parts again to understand completely. I find these types of films brilliant, as you understand better as the movie progresses what is going on until the end where it all comes together, so once is really enough to appreciate as you are watching from the character's viewpoint, but twice you watch with inside knowledge the character doesn't have. So the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that as a personal critic, I felt it could use a bit of polishing in the script and I have to save the 5 for the absolute mindblowing experiences, though I have to say I WANT to give it 5 stars! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member boring movie ever. i don't understand at all. i'd rather sleep than watching this movie Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
