Sofia works as a location scout for a network TV show shooting in New York City. It's her job to find the homes, businesses, and exteriors where the soon-to-be-shot show will take place. This means a daily journey into the private spaces and lives of numerous city residents, photographing their properties and briefly stepping into the fabric of their lives. Over the course of a day filled with these encounters, Sofia plays witness to moments of curiosity, vulnerability, and quiet tension, until her work takes a sudden, personal turn. THE SCOUT is a contemplative exploration of urban disconnection, following one woman’s quiet journey through other people's worlds as she struggles to find her own.

Lovia Gyarkye The Hollywood Reporter The film confidently highlights the delicate relationship between people and their spaces, while also acknowledging the understated harshness of a job that requires you to assess... one of the more intimate elements of another person’s life. Jul 14, 2025 Full Review Jacob Oller AV Club A contemplative and funny portrait of a city, an industry, and the sacrifices needed to live in both. Rated: B Jun 10, 2025 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness ... González-Nasser offers a quiet and frequently meditative story about the spaces people occupy and the way we all must navigate them, regardless of indignities. Rated: 4/5 Jun 29, 2025 Full Review Valerie Kalfrin AWFJ.org [W]riter-director Paula González-Nasser, who worked as a location scout on several series (Mrs. Fletcher, Younger), has a knack for balancing the humor and absurdities of Sofia’s job with her ennui. Jun 27, 2025 Full Review Nora Lee Mandel Maven's Nest Tours us through vistas of Brooklyn houses, with glimpses of Manhattan residential communities and Rockaway beach, and gives subtle insights into how movies stereotype characters’ homes and surroundings. But title character's story doesn't go anywhere. Rated: 5/10 Jun 21, 2025 Full Review Murjani Rawls Substream Magazine The film’s success stems from the fact that you’ll wish the conditions were ripe for the main character to experience her own story more (and take some time off).
