Critics Consensus

The Secrets We Keep handles its more serious themes indelicately, but manages to offer some entertaining -- albeit implausible -- B-movie thrills.

Kevin Maher Times (UK) The central dilemma, nonetheless, is so compelling that it smooths over the imperfections. And the final shots are satisfying and chilling. Rated: 4/5 May 17, 2021 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) Rapace... lifts the picture above its more formulaic instincts. Rated: 3/5 May 13, 2021 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian All in all, it's an engaging if pulpy drama. Rated: 3/5 May 12, 2021 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It’s still very much a genre film albeit one that is well acted, consistently entertaining, and that dabbles in its themes more than explores them. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 25, 2022 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) It isn't Norman Rockwell-perfect, it is equal parts fresh paint and damaged people, and that felt honest. Rated: 4/5 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Josh Parham Next Best Picture Yudal Adler’s bland and unassuming direction struggles to make the tension feel poignant and therefore, much of the interest in the story is lost. Eddie S Well it earns B movie status for its blinding errors, far-fetched action and over indulgence of such a coincidence. But all it would of taken is a quick glance under the suspected former SS officers left armpit to settle the dilemma of his military status. All SS members had their blood type tattooed there or the remnant of a scar where they had it cut out after the WW2 victors hunted them down. All in all it was still well acted and well paced. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/20/24 Full Review Jerry F I watched this movie because I'm a fan of Joel Kinnaman but I felt more anxious than entertained. Keeps going on and on with the same and nothing seems to happen until the very end, while she smokes her head off. I guess is not my cup of tea. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/24 Full Review Joe W Well acted. Interesting story. I was entertained. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Stoner J This is a fairly thrilling torture flick Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/08/23 Full Review Wolfgang G „The Secrets We Keep" ist ein Thriller-Drama von Yuval Adler… Nach dem Krieg bauen sich zwei Holocaust-Überlebende ein neues Leben in New York auf… Eine solide, gut gespielt und leicht vorhersehbare Geschichte, mit vielen faszinierenden Wendungen… „The Secrets We Keep" ist für mich ein sehenswerter Thriller, der auch zum nachdenken anregen will. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review Lagrange P Tasteless revenge porn. Redeemed to a certain extent by Rapace's outstanding performance, but ultimately a relentlessly depressing journey through familiar ground that's been trod before to much better effect. In the end, all three of the central characters are equally despicable, deplorable, morally bankrupt excuses for human beings. All are victims and all are antagonists. Character development is unsure and incomplete, and in one case literally cut off mid sentence, making it impossible to care about any of them. Above all, this film has a thoroughly dark and depressing view of human nature with which I think most would disagree. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
