Phil Hoad Guardian It has an easy swing and self-assurance, thanks in no small part to a well-starched performance by Shane O’Regan as real-life pilot Brendan Finucane, AKA “Spitfire Paddy”. Rated: 3/5 Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Graeme Tuckett The Post NZ The acting is mostly serviceable, the storytelling and action are forthright and the special effects are enjoyably aspirational. Audience Member I always worry when a film is written, directed and edited by the same people, and this film proves it doesn't work. The story has potential, but is marred by overly CGI'd effects: the scenes look unreal with glowing back drops and soft lenses (even the night bombing raid is delivered to a glowong sky), the planes make manoeuvres that are surreal and it all has a cartoon-like false feel. The acting isn't great either and seems like amateur dramatics at times. The Australian squadron seems to shoot down numerous enemy aircraft for no loss for thr first 20 minutes, and then the reverse happens, which in reality is the reverse of the historical truth. The whole film lacks depth. A real pity as I hoped much more of this film and a more accurate historical record. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/06/25 Full Review Magdalena V What in the world of amateur dramatics is this?! Surely they could have found a better director? Better actors? A better screenplay? Better photographers? It is like watching a nephews school project in slow motion. Just give this one amiss. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/24/25 Full Review Michele K The lead actor does his best to hold together this what is supposed to be based on factual events movie, however it doesn't take long to find many incorrect issues. From the aircraft to facts about Paddy and the Sqns he was on it really is a very, very loosely based factual movie. The CGI was just terrible and some of the graphics was actually taken from the Battle of Britian 1969 movie. They couldn't even keep correct or consist uniforms etc throughout. All in all it was so very disappointing and really let down telling the factual story of an amazing Officer and other heroes who gave their all during a terrible time. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/14/25 Full Review niall q Struggling to find a redeeming feature. Lead actor does his best I suppose with a completely clueless screenplay. Lots of absolute Poundland CGI. They appear to have gotten access to takes or outtakes from the Battle of Britain (1969) and used that to sequence some of the CGI combat scenes. If they'd asked or better employed some expertise in this area they'd have discovered the 1969 movie didn't have access to actual Gerrman fighter planes and instead passed off Spanish Buchons as roughly approximated Bf109s. They've also fed their "supercomputer" images and film of multiple versions of Spitfires in different RAF schemes and liveries - many of which weren't available or in use when the film is set. If any of this seems nitpicky ask yourself who's most likely to watch a film based on this subject but those who evidently take more of an interest than those who slapped this mess together. I've seen more compelling episodes of Neighbours. Seriously, ...Neighbours. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/25 Full Review pauline h Boring , bad acting , filmed like in 1950s but over kill .
