Phil Hoad Guardian It has an easy swing and self-assurance, thanks in no small part to a well-starched performance by Shane O’Regan as real-life pilot Brendan Finucane, AKA “Spitfire Paddy”. Rated: 3/5 Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz The acting is mostly serviceable, the storytelling and action are forthright and the special effects are enjoyably aspirational. Sylvie C Fabulous cast and well crafted historic film Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review Donna S This is 1.5 hours we wont get back. Possibly made for the rest home demographic, as a take on 1950s films. Incredibly cheesy quotes "Its better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all", interspersed by soft focus close ups and Gone with the Wind sunset shots. The "21"year old lead hero - the quiet spoken Irishman seemed lost for words, rather than a deep thinker. The best character was Bluey the red headed Australian. Overall a WW2 story that wasn't a story. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Lachie H With abysmal to generic dialogue, a score that could put a baby to sleep and horrific camera work, this film is arguably a stain on the memory of the Shamrock Spitfire. Drinking game idea: every time someone looks up and turns their head to look at spitfires, take a shot. It'll be the only way to enjoy this film Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/24/24 Full Review Michael C I confess: i only watched 1/2 of the TRAILER and knew it was bad. The actors are a mix of real and AI, or if not AI, then they've been in some terrible accident and have had facial reconstruction done by a twelve year old using silly putty. Don't get me started about the planes. I've seen better playing X Plane. Can the filmmakers x-plane why on earth they attempted to make a period film on a used car budget? If you decide to go ahead and watch the second half of the trailer--or, worse, the entire film--all I can say is watch it wearing a friend's prescription eyeglasses, or through the bottom of a glass of whiskey--make that a double. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review Rowan G I thought this was a great story of a little known Irish WW2 fighter ace with a connection to Australian pilots. It was beautifully filmed but unfortunately there were far too many cliches. Flying over the cliffs of Dover, a little boy running underneath the overhead planes with a toy spitfire, people coming out from shops to stare up admiringly at the shamrock ace, a wise Irish priest (with a poor accent) and the ocker Australians. I found myself laughing as one cliche followed another. The CGI is substandard as is the support acting. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review Vivianna I Beautifully filmed. I first thought it was an old film but it looks like it was released in 2024. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
