What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Silence has nothing new to say with a derivative premise and placid pacing -- even a wasted Stanley Tucci is unable to elevate the stodgy material a decibel above dreadful.

Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald The estimable trio at the heart of the cast goes close to carrying the whole thing over the line, but it never feels as taut or kinetic as it needs to be. May 3, 2019 Full Review Scott Tobias New York Times There may come a time when the Netflix algorithm grows sophisticated enough to cut out the middle man and write its own scripts, but until that day arrives, niche-targeted dreck like "The Silence" will have to suffice. Apr 12, 2019 Full Review Kristy Puchko IGN Movies Imagine A Quiet Place, but deeply mediocre. Apr 11, 2019 Full Review Robert W. Butler Butler's Cinema Scene The Silence has been reasonably well made by director John R. Leonetti. And he has assembled a surprisingly classy cast. Rated: C+ Jul 11, 2024 Full Review Samantha Puc The Beat The cult plot in The Silence is as poorly handled as nearly every other part of the film. With the exception of a great cast, headed by Kiernan Shipka, Stanley Tucci, and Miranda Otto, the film lacks any cohesion and feels almost unwatchable. Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Jordy Sirkin Jordy Reviews It The Silence is a painful attempt to remake A Quiet Place, which came out the year before. Though this is based on a 2015 novel of the same name, the story has already been done perfectly, leaving little to be desired in this straight-to-streaming flick. Chris S B list actors (Tucci is a solid B+ I guess) risk their careers in a ripoff of of 'A Quiet Place'. Imagine wanting to watch the Krasinski film but all you got was a bootleg DVD from Temu. Plot holes abound, pointless story arcs that dont resolve, a deaf character played by a hearing actor (nice job), horrific computer generated images, and an ending that makes you want to give yourself an enema, this movie makes me hate at least 3 key aspects of the human experience. I think the prevailing reason why I hated it so much was how much it is apparent that the producers tried and still made whatever this is. There are movies in this world that are so bad that you have to watch them just for the laughs. This is not one of them. I lost 2 hours of my life and I will never forgive whoever John Leonetti is for this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/24 Full Review Dinos K Very bad movie, with cheap CGI and mediocre performances. It was like a parody of A Quiet Place Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/19/24 Full Review Mike M This movie is appallingly bad. Who wrote this absolute joke of a script? Overriding summary: stupid people die stupidly when crisis strikes. Every single decision was wrong. Watching this movie is like seeing the backstory of the dead bodies the protagonists would be stepping over in a normal suspense or horror movie. The ending is pointless and resolves nothing. The only amusing moment in the ENTIRE film was the wood chipper, which illustrates how easily this entire "crisis" could've been solved. Whatever you do, don't waste your time on this garbage. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/24 Full Review Ashton G If I could go less then half a star. I would! Litrally the worst film I’ve ever watched it made no sense, wasted 2 hours and I could of been spending that time watching the Tesco documentary Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/07/24 Full Review GeekChic 3 Knock off version of a Quiet Place, nothing happens, also they used a hearing actor to play a deaf character, so there's that... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Hollibird I love Tucci and Shipka. This was okay. We needed more info on the crazy man, I would like to see more carnage when they finally stopped them. I wish they would have had the story where the things were eradicated rather than "I wonder if they adapt to the cold in the future?". They should have let me write it.
