Trying to watch it again after I fell asleep watching it in the theater. I can’t give an honest review because I’ve fallen asleep twice trying to watch it at home. Who needs sleeping pills and I’m never going to Oslo.

One of the most uninvolving movies I've ever seen. Terrible direction, appalling editing by a renowned editor (though can't really be blamed as only had garbage to work with), disjointed scenes, unbelievably bad script. The only thing going for it is the snow-bound scenery. The high-calibre actors in this movie all made a major mistake signing up for this disaster.

The movie starts really slow so I understand the low ratings, the first half an hour is really boring to the point where I was about to stop watching it, and then it starts to build up at around the 35-40 minute mark. And then you realize that this is just one more movie where the detective is a drunk and this one particular case is somehow interwoven to him so it’s kind of an awakening for him, and of course the assassin is known and closer to him than expected. It’s been done a thousand times. And the movie is spoken in English despite taking place in Norway. Why? Two stars for the nice setting.

It's baffling how bad this is, even more so when you consider the talent involved both in front of (Fassbender, Simmons, Gainsbourg ) and behind (Thomas Alfredson, Thelma Schoonmaker) the camera. That said, given that seemingly everybody involved was fine with pronouncing the main character's name as "Harry Hole", perhaps a disaster was inevitable.
