Audience Member Stool Pigeon will not join the pantheon of better informant movies, like Infernal Affairs, Donnie Brasco, or New World. Its a thriller that is mainly unfocused, with Nick Cheung's character having too many subplots with his former informant and the story about his ex-wife. The stool pigeon in question has good back story but he's a very static character in both physical and acting wise. by the time the film's climax comes around, its not entertaining at all. No one has a gun for some reason, and it ends on a very sloppy note. There's one very tense scene in which the villain tests the informant, but other than the film falls flat. It doesn't keep up the pace or tension, and doesn't deliver enough suspense or thrills. Steeped in melodrama and ill fitting subplots, The Stool Pigeon is not one of Dante Lam's better films. Check out Beast Cops instead. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member An unexpected pleasure! Great police procedural! Fantastic performances by everyone involved! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Filled with strong sense of masculinity, packed with action & cars chasing stunts it is. Nothing deeper nor more. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I think this film is underrated. I didn't expect much but it was a pleasant surprise. It's gritty, some what unsettling, and raw with emotions. It might start slow but it rewards those who're patient. Considering the premise - the dangerous line of work and the thin boundary an informant has to walk, it's not inappropriate for it to be dark and I wasn't turned off by the ending. I wasn't in for a Disney ending from the start. I think it's more realistic and all the build ups channeled well to the end. It's emotional and you get to see from both sides and their unspoken rationales and they're both right in their own respect and sometimes there's nothing more they can do. I was drawn into the dilemma, the unsettling conscience, the consequences of one's action, the fear, the adrenaline rush, the pressure, the guilt etc. The action sequence is not nice and pretty like that of Jackie Chan's. It's honest, brutal, and it's real, and it's scary because that's how things are settle on the street in the East. There's no hero; you've just got to do what you've gotta do. A good film in my book. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member While watching this again, i realised its not as good. Like when its in the drama its exceeptional, but the characters are too dark and pretty much everyone who gets harmend in film almost deserves it and when its in the action...well i cant even call it action, just violence thats rough, brutal and harsh and dosent deliver a great deal that you would hope or want, it dosent work as well as Donnie Brasco or is as powerful as Infernal Affairs. Almost o waste of time if it wasnt for some of the performances and the craft from its director. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review mark c Quite a number of WTF moments, together with more fabricated plot devices to insult the intelligence of the viewer. Yeah, we get it, everybody is messed up, there's no good at all for all parties involved, but you can't just write up these ultra convenient plots and expect me to take you seriously.
