Michael Nordine Variety That premise has no shortage of potential, and while the film doesn’t squander it, it doesn’t maximize it either, to the extent that the behind-the-scenes story (about the project’s post-Quibi fate) winds up being more distinctive than the actual plot. Apr 16, 2024 Full Review Natalia Winkelman New York Times A tense if tidy thriller that chronicles a ride-hail driver’s journey to surveillance hell and back. Apr 15, 2024 Full Review Marshall Shaffer Decider Though Monroe and De Haan are talented actors, they’re trapped playing derivative and generic beats within a familiar horror-thriller cloaked in faux contemporary relevancy. Jul 8, 2024 Full Review Matt Pais MattPais.com Very tense and makes no sense. Rated: C Apr 22, 2024 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Ruined by substandard screenwriting and sloppy editing. [Dane] DeHaan's Carl character is a very two-dimensional villain, while [Maika] Monroe is stuck playing a character who makes so many dumb decisions that it’s hard to feel much sympathy. Apr 18, 2024 Full Review Laura Bradley The Daily Beast Its beautifully framed visuals and ominous, shadowy lighting are enough to make you forget that this movie was once a vertically oriented TV series meant to be consumed in 9-minute intervals while waiting in line for your Starbucks order. Makenna R This movie made absolutely no sense. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/05/24 Full Review Samara N this is actually one of the worst movies i have ever seen in my entire life and i’ve seen CATS. I genuinely do not trust a soul on here who’s left it anything more than a half star review. the only redeemable quality of this film is the dog. Nothing about this movie made sense, the plot holes were one after another. terrible script and not great acting even from amazing actors. There was a ton of half assed social/political commentary that just… fell so flat and didn’t make a lot of sense. i would not recommend this movie to my worst enemy please do not waste your time Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/24 Full Review Linda T I think this movie was great, scared me all the way through, I feel it was great casting and awesome plot 👍👍 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Audience Member It’s just terrible. The acting is poor at best. And nothing they do in the movie makes any sense. It makes the original Friday the 13th look good. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Jeffrey P A psychological thriller to the tune of ‘MAGA rage unleashed.’ Nothing overtly stands out as new and inventive, but the suspense and thrills are good enough to maintain interest, though the act wears thin as there are no clear motives for the villain or any good explanation for how he is so skilled. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Audience Member There’s a reason why picking up strangers is a bad idea even for an Uber driver Dane Dehaan and Maika Monroe in a psychological thriller by Veena Sud Clare drives as an Uber then her latest passenger is a man named Carl It isn’t long before he makes his hostile intentions towards her clear Clare has to try to escape his mind games all the while trying to escape his constant need to follow her This actually reminded me of ‘The Hitcher’ in many respects Unfortunately it doesn’t hit as many of the same high points Dehaan disappears for a large portion of this and the thrills are sadly in short supply Although he does display an impressive amount of menace and confidence Monroe gives a truly committed performance struggling to keep her composure from all the torture she’s enduring It’s a scary reminder too of the heavily surveillanced world we live in where at the touch of a button anyone’s lives can be upended I just wish the premise took more advantage of its sheer intensity Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
