Audience Member It's not the finest thing ever, but it's a good time for a bit of mystery fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The Brits certainly have a way with the period piece and this is an excellent example of a "who-done-it" for the time and for today's viewers. A tense personal drama, as well as a good crime story, makes this steady progression a satisfying tale... with a bit of all-too-real human failures that render ultimate justice impossible and the outcome emotionally unfinished. The only reasons I could not give it a full five stars is the slow introduction and a lack of context for the characters. Perhaps this is remedied in later offerings of the series. But then again, storytelling like this provides an environment that seems like Mr. Whicher and the viewer both live and observe in an ever-so-slight vacuum -- always gasping for just a bit more air, but left gasping. Even when the event is concluded, the vacuum still exists and it takes some time away from the story before the viewer senses he can breathe, deeply, again. It, obviously, is very effective in its mood. Well done. I shall watch all remaining Mr. Whicher dramas. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member This was surprisingly pointless. At least with a circle, you know there's really no point to it. This one, ugh. In following the old adage, I won't say more. (It was well-acted, though.) Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review troy k Better than average crime mystery. Go watch Vera instead. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Great TV-movie based on true events when a detective investigated the murder of a 3-year old boy in 1860!
