J. R. Jones Chicago Reader When the film turns mawkish in the last reel, the tears are a welcome respite from the glib one-liners that substitute for character development in the first half. Jul 2, 2022 Full Review Randy Cordova Arizona Republic Despite its flaws, it eventually gets under your skin and is sweetly moving. Rated: 4/5 Sep 25, 2003 Full Review Wesley Morris Boston Globe By the time it's over you'll be able to fill a bumper sticker with everything you've learned. Rated: 2/4 Aug 1, 2003 Full Review John A. Nesbit Old School Reviews doesn't insult your intelligence or rely strictly on clich to gain a few knowing chuckles Rated: B Jan 10, 2011 Full Review Rene Rodriguez Miami Herald The story's third-act detour into tragedy is predictable and unwelcome, providing a resolution that is too pat and familiar to be moving. Rated: 2/4 Sep 5, 2003 Full Review Jeffrey Bruner Des Moines Register It's ... drenched in melodrama, saddled with a forced plot and surrounded by so many character stereotypes that the film almost becomes self-parody. Audience Member This film is an under appreciated gem in gay film. Larry Sullivan's performance is outstanding-refreshingly real, genuine, and deftly executed. While I could have dealt without the film's ultimate acquiescence into the realm of predictable gay cinema laden with the nameless disease trope toward the film's end, it was not done so distastefully, nor was it so severe, to discredit what was otherwise, a truly remarkable film. As an additional note: if there was ever a case of an epic film being so grossly misrepresented (misunderstood & overlooked) by such an ill-fitting, inappropriately chosen cover art more than The Trip, I haven't seen it. Watch it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member It's so bad that by the time it ends you can't help it but feel relieved. The second half of the movie was utterly predictable. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member After 2 decades of courting and drama, a young couple goes to Mexico searching for a cure for HIV. Campy as hell and filled with progressive propaganda, the Trip felt short on a good premise. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Good-hearted, super-cheese. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Fan fav. My new favorite inspirational love story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member I wasn't sure about this movie during the beginning but it turned out to be a really good love story.
